Coast to Coast 2024
LOOKING TO COMPLETE AN ICONIC RIDE AND CHALLENGE ?

THEN LOOK NO FURTHER

Across 3 epic days the Coast to Coast will take you from West to East, covering 155 miles of Northern England. Experience spectacular landscapes and scenery via an off and on road route, suitable for gravel, hybrid or mountain bikes. We know there is no better way to travel.

Specially for 2024 there is the added extra challenge on offer of Coast to Coast in a Day, riding East to West on a road route of 150 miles with the same team and support. The choice is yours. See section below for more information on this option.

Fully supported and guided, fantastic food, packed pit stops, mechanical and medical support, and the chance to share in a common goal are just some of the things that make this a ride of a lifetime, and means 99% of riders who start......finish.

For our regular Coast to Coast we offer Hostel or B&B accommodation packages, with luggage transport, however you'll soon find there's nothing 'regular' about it.

With your every need catered for, you can just ride like a Pro. We'll take in some of the same route used by the Tour de France and Tour de Yorkshire, perfect for making new memories.

Having completed your epic ride, a heros' welcome awaits and a celebration dinner in a luxury hotel.

One of our primary drivers for this Coast to Coast ride is to provide funds for our charity partner Marie Curie. By taking on this challenge you will be helping Marie Curie provide care and support for terminally ill people and their families.

Coast to Coast is an iconic cycling challenge, a test of stamina and will. Standing the test of time, through the simplicity of going from West to East and the breath taking variety of scenery it passes through. This isn't the ordinary Coast to Coast route, this is our Coast to Coast route.

EXPLORE THE FULL RANGE OF TERRAIN

Starting in Grange over Sands on the West Coast we traverse the country to Scarborough on the East. The riding is a mixture of off road tracks and trails and quiet back roads. The off road sections include bridleways, tracks and short sections of single track. We guide you from the Southern Lakeland flats, over the challenging Pennines, through lush and fertile dales and over the majestic North York Moors. Hidden green valleys, winding back lanes and moorland tracks, stack up to make for 3 fantastic days of riding - 155 miles - 3352m of climbing -1 epic challenge

DAY 1 - GRANGE OVER SANDS to HAWES
Overview
Starting early on Friday morning we head over to The Pennines across some flatish Southern Lakeland, and then some hills to warm you up. You'll soon hit your first bit of off road route and begin to get a feel of what it's all about. A delicious wilderness lunch from Coast to Coast Crew in Barbondale will see you through to Dent. The local school children will give you a fantastic boost for the Dent Fell to come. It's a challenge and todays highest point at 526m. From here its pretty much downhill to Hawes and a drink at The Fountain.

Distance - 48 miles
Ascent - 4465ft/1360m

DAY 2 - HAWES to Osmotherley
Overview
If any day is easy, this is it. Relatively flat with a few impressive hills. Roll down Wensleydale with its drystone walls and barns. After morning tea you'll climb up the dale side for an impressive vista of Wensleydale. Through picturesque Askrigg, and on to the Middleham Gallops - here the racehorses of the future are training. Our lunch stop at Thornton Whatlass is a treat of cricket and cakes. Marie Curie Nurse Lorna will inspire you to ride further and faster with her rousing speech and beautiful baking. Country lanes take us towards the North York Moors and Osmotherley, there's a final hill, and a rewarding welcome from those already taking refreshment at the local pub.

Distance - 52miles
Ascent - 2898ft/833m

DAY 3 - Osmotherley to Scarborough
Overview
The final day and it never fails to impress. A really stunning days riding, across the North York Moors, towards the coast and Scarborough. An early climb up Black Hambleton affords you expansive views as you ride a large moorland track along the very edge of the Cleveland Hills escarpment. Quiet country lanes lead to lunch which is generously supplied by The White Swan at Pickering. An afternoon surprise in Dalby Forest propels you up the final hill and your first glimpse of the sea. The finish is spectacular, sweeping round the seafront bays before your final meters and the cheering crowds. Lap up all the praise and hugs, you deserve it.

Distance - 57miles
Ascent - 3477ft/1059m

IS IT FOR ME ?
We offer a variety of support for all levels of fitness and expertise to give you the best chance of making it to the finish.

The tougher the journey the sweeter the feeling !

This challenge will not be easy and it will require a commitment from you to train and prepare for the event, but we believe with enough focus and support, anything is possible. Lots of people come to this event on their own, but many go away with friends for life.

Among the many people who have completed this cycling challenge, we’ve had men and women in their late seventies(even early eighties), time-poor parents, cyclists battling cancer, amputees and a few who had never ridden a bike before. So yes it is for you.

Coast to Coast in a Day
So for an extra challenge this year we have available the option to ride Coast to Coast in a Day - riding East to West from Scarborough to Grange over Sands - against the prevailing wind and exclusively an on road route. This is an epic ride 150 miles with 8430 ft of climbing, but there will be plenty of support along the way, with 6 feed stations with the usual proper food, hot drinks, high energy supplements and support crew.

This will not be signed route but there will be the choice of riding with GPS route guide or with a chaperoned group, made up of riders with a similar pace and an event guide.

The ride can be done as a stand alone event or added to the West to East Coast to Coast over 3 days, see booking options below. This part of the ride will take place on 19th June.
Sticking in the main to quiet back roads we will start from the beach at Scarborough's South Bay heading towards Dalby Forest and the Vale of Pickering. Taking in some stunning views around Ampleforth Abbey we'll skirt along the edge of the Hambleton Hills and make for the flat lands of the Vale of Mowbray. Heading towards the vibrant town of Masham - located in the rolling countryside of Lower Wensleydale, a half way point is reached. From here there's a similar distance to travel but more height to be gained, we ride along Wensleydale, by the Garsdale viaduct and over the Pennines towards Southern Lakeland. Our final destination is Grange over Sands, a celebration dinner and medal for all those who've done Coast to Coast in a Day.

As for our main event all luggage is transported and full back up is available for both medical and mechanical issues. There is also the option of doing a bike or tyre change in Grange if you are also riding 'Back' on our 3 day all terrain route. We can transport your alternative bike to Grange and return your road bike to Scarborough for a small additional cost.
WHY DO WE DO IT ? -  Marie Curie and the care of terminally ill people and their families
THE WHY - Marie Curie is our chosen charity. We have run a Coast to Coast event for over 10 years and helped raise over £250,000. This will be our 14th event. Marie Curie provides care and support for terminally ill people and their families in their own homes.
For this reason we ask each participant to raise as much in sponsorship as they can. Our target for 2024 is £40,000.

We know many people are put off taking part in charity events by the large sums that participants are  expected to raise. We have chosen to approach things slightly differently and ask riders to pay for their accommodation and food cost up front and then raise as much as you can. We are sure everyone will work really hard to raise a great sum for Marie Curie.

THE HOW - To make it easier we have a Just Giving Team site, where all donations can be collected together. You can feed in to the Team site but also keep a personal tally as well. Marie Curie Fundraising Teams can also give you top tips to help with your sponsorship with a multitude of ideas to get the donations rolling in.

The whole event is only made possible by the generous help from a host of volunteers and support of friends, family and colleagues, who give their time and skills for no charge. We do not profit from this event. All proceeds go to Marie Curie.
