The Riverhead Charter School was founded by a group of parents who were seeking an alternative to their public school district.

In 2001 with a total of 187 students the school opened it doors to children in grades kindergarten to 5th grade. The original school occupied a historical 1928 school building along with a separate 10 room module building.

In 2015, The Riverhead Charter School had expanded to servicing over 400 students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. A brand new building was also constructed on the campus to replace the module building. The new 50,000 square foot building included 18 classrooms, a combined gym-cafeteria, a stage for performances, a library and designated science, art, and music rooms.

As the years progressed, the need to grow became evident. Parents and students wanted to continue their education at the Riverhead Charter School. It was decided the Riverhead Charter School would become a K-12 school, adding the next grade each year.

Today Riverhead Charter School has grown even more and will be graduating its first senior class in June of 2024 from its new state of the art high school campus situated on Sound Avenue which opened September 2022.

The Riverhead Charter School is excited to be able to send their first graduating class off to college, some of whom have been here since Kindergarten. We are looking forward to being able to create a scholarship fund to honor not only our first graduating class, but every graduating class to come.

Your donations and attendance in our Gala are crucial in helping our students attend college. Without this scholarship fund, many of our students would not have the financial flexibility to attend the college of their choice.
