Mike Acton is a Managing Director of the firm and AEW’s Head of Research with responsibility for directing the activities of AEW Research, the firm’s in-house research group. As one of the founding members of AEW Research in 1990, Mike has over three decades of expertise as an economic analyst and forecaster. The resources offered by AEW Research are an essential component of the firm’s successful investment process. He collaborates closely with senior experts from all sectors of the firm to formulate core through opportunistic equity and debt investment strategies that align clients’ risk and reward objectives with prevailing market prospects. Additionally, he played a vital role in shaping the strategy for AEW's listed securities business, which was launched in 1995. 

During his career, Mike has also actively contributed to the development of various proprietary research tools, notably playing a key role in the creation of the highly regarded and widely read AEW Relative Value Index. His important contributions to the advancement of research on real estate as an institutional asset class led to his 2023 PREA Graaskamp Research Award1, a prestigious recognition to those who contribute to the common body of knowledge and insights gained through their significant research. He holds a permanent position on the Investment, Risk Management and Compliance Committees within the organization. Mike plays an integral part within the firm’s Senior Leadership Team, actively contributing to AEW’s overall strategic vision and direction.  Prior to joining AEW, he was with DRI/McGraw-Hill where he managed the Metropolitan Area Forecasting Service. He is a graduate of Bates College (B.A.), and a CFA charterholder, as well as a member of the CFA Institute and CFA Society Boston.

Nikki Greenberg is a world-leading futurist, focused on the trends and technologies shaping cities of the future. She explores the convergence of real space and cyber space. She will explore the possibilities of emerging technologies and innovative ways of thinking and provide insights on ways to capitalize upon it.

Nikki has held cross-functional leadership positions with a focus on innovation and design. Most recently she served as Head of Technology Strategy for QIC, an Australian investment manager, where she led the transformation of its’ $17Bn AUM real estate portfolio and $4Bn development pipeline, towards a tech-enabled future. In New York she led the innovation efforts of the #1 private brokerage Brown Harris Stevens, for new luxury residential developments. In Australia, she designed and developed transformative mixed-use residential, retail and masterplan projects with Lendlease and Koichi Takada Architects. Proudly serving as both a three-term co-chair of ULI New York’s Real Estate Technology and Innovation Council, and Global Ambassador of Women in PropTech, (which she also founded), Nikki leads the industry’s conversation on built world innovation.
Andrew Ross Sorkin

Andrew Ross Sorkin is an award-winning journalist for The New York Times and a co-anchor of Squawk Box, CNBC’s signature morning program. He is also the founder and editor-at-large of DealBook, an online daily financial report published by The Times that he started in 2001. Sorkin is the author of Too Big to Fail: How Wall Street and Washington Fought to Save the Financial System — and Themselves (Viking, 2009), which chronicled the events of the 2008 financial crisis. The book won the 2010 Gerald Loeb Award for Best Business Book, and was shortlisted for the 2010 Samuel Johnson Prize and the 2010 Financial Times Business Book of the Year Award. The book spent more than six months on the New York Times Best Seller list in hardcover and paperback. The book was adapted as a movie for HBO Films in 2011. Sorkin was a co-producer of the film, which was nominated for 11 Emmy Awards. His next book, 1929: The Inside Story of the Greatest Crash in Wall Street History, will be published in October 2025.

Sorkin is also co-creator of the drama series “Billions” on Show-Time starring Paul Giamatti and Damien Lewis. He has several new film and television projects in development. Sorkin is one the preeminent interviewers in the nation, known for his incisive, nuanced long-form conversations with the biggest newsmakers in the world, from Elon Musk to Lebron James to Kim Kardashian and Hillary Clinton. Just this year, he won the Emmy award for “Outstanding Live Interview.”

This fall, Sorkin will host a new limited streaming interview series for NBC that will be broadcast on NBC News Now and will be available on demand on Peacock, YouTube, NBCNews.com, as well as platforms like Pluto TV, Samsung TV Plus, The Roku Channel and NBC News’ apps on Roku, Fire TV and Apple TV.

Over the years, Sorkin has broken news of many major mergers and acquisitions in the pages of The Times and has been at the forefront of Wall Street news. He reported extensively on the financial crisis of 2008, its aftermath on Wall Street and the government bailout of major investment banks, with coverage including the collapse of Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers, and the A.I.G. bailout. He has broken news of deals including Chase’s acquisition of J.P. Morgan and Hewlett-Packard’s acquisition of Compaq. He also led The Times’s coverage of Vodafone’s $183 billion hostile bid for Mannesmann, resulting in the world’s largest takeover ever.

As a leading voice about Wall Street and corporate America, Sorkin is a frequent guest on national television and radio programs, as well as a lecturer at universities across the country. He has appeared on NBC’s “Today Show,” PBS’s “NewsHour,” HBO’ “Real Time with Bill Maher,” NPR’s “Talk of the Nation,” and many others.

He won a Gerald Loeb Award in 2004 for breaking the news of I.B.M.’s historic sale of its PC business to Lenovo. He was also a finalist in the commentary category for his DealBook column. He also won a Society of American Business Editors and Writers Award for breaking news in 2005 and again in 2006. In 2007, the World Economic Forum named him a Young Global Leader.


Sorkin is co-chair of The New York Public Library’s Business Leadership Council and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Sorkin began writing for The Times in 1995 under unusual circumstances: he hadn’t yet graduated from high school. Sorkin is a graduate of Cornell University.

Daniel J. Ryan is Co-President and Regional Market Director – San Diego of Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc., the largest and leading owner, operator, and developer of collaborative Megacampus™ ecosystems in AAA life science innovation cluster locations. With over 30 years of commercial real estate experience and almost two decades in life science real estate, Mr. Ryan is well recognized as a creative forward thinker. Since joining Alexandria in 2010, he has led the growth and transformation of the company’s San Diego region, which encompasses approximately 8 million rentable square feet. He has also played a key role in developments, redevelopments, joint ventures, financing, leasing, and other strategic opportunities across the company’s national asset base.
 
Prior to joining the company, Mr. Ryan was Chief Executive Officer of Veralliance, a commercial real estate development company he founded in 2002. Veralliance owned, managed, developed, and leased an approximately $1 billion portfolio primarily consisting of life science assets in the greater San Diego region, certain assets of which Alexandria acquired in June 2010. Veralliance had significant institutional equity partners, including a REIT, Prudential Real Estate Investors, and UBS. Prior to 2002, Mr. Ryan worked in the commercial real estate industry in Southern California. He was a founding principal of Pacific Management Services, Inc., a commercial developer focused on value-added transactions in the greater San Diego area, including life science, office, industrial, and multifamily transactions.

Mr. Ryan is a board member of Curebound, a San Diego-based non-profit that raises and invests strategic funding in translational cancer research projects, and the San Diego Economic Development Corporation, a non-profit regional body that mobilizes business, government, and civic leaders to maximize economic growth. He is also a member of NAIOP and the Urban Land Institute, both public policy organizations focused on public advocacy of the built environment.

Mr. Ryan received his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and was admitted to Omicron Delta Epsilon, the honor society for excellence in achievement in the study of economics.
Jacques Gordon

Jacques Gordon was appointed as the Director of the Graaskamp Center for Real Estate in November 2024. Prior to that he served as an “Executive in Residence” at the MIT Center for Real Estate. From 1994-2024 he also served as the Global Head of Research and Strategy for LaSalle Investment Management. He serves on the boards of directors of The Real Estate Research Institute, and the Institute for Urban Research at the University of Pennsylvania. He has been the editor of the Journal of Portfolio Management’s special real estate issue from 2003 to 2025. Jacques received the “Graaskamp Award” from the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA) for his contributions to real estate research and education. Jacques received his PhD from MIT, MSc from the London School of Economics, and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.

Kyle serves as a Vice President and Regional Project Partner for Lincoln Avenue Communities. In his role, he is responsible for new project development, acquisition and financing. He oversees new development projects from inception through construction completion and turnover to property management.

With over 15 years of experience in multifamily housing development, Kyle has developed over 3,500 multifamily units, both affordable and market-rate, totaling over $750 million in total development costs.

Prior to joining LAC, Kyle served as a Developer for multiple Midwest-based multifamily housing development firms. He holds a B.B.A. in Real Estate and Finance from the Wisconsin School of Business.

Austin also played a key role in developing the "oLiv/Hub Broom affordable" program at Madison, a pioneering initiative to provide accessible student accommodations in the city. Beyond Madison, Austin has led the sourcing and closing of approximately $4.5 billion in development projects.

Kristina Lynn is a Senior Director, Housing Acquisitions & Dispositions at Nuveen Real Estate. Based in Chicago, she is responsible for the acquisition and disposition of multifamily assets in the Carolinas, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. She also heads up Nuveen’s student housing platform.

Prior to joining the firm in 2019, Kristina was Vice President, Acquisitions with Redwood Capital Group, a private real estate company based in Chicago, and active throughout the Carolinas, Atlanta, and Florida. During her tenure at Redwood Capital Group, she was instrumental in transactions totaling 3,807 units representing $488 million in multifamily assets from 2014 through 2019.

Prior to Redwood Capital Group, Kristina was on the acquisitions team with Henderson Global Investors/TIAA-CREF from 2005 through 2014, which is now Nuveen Real Estate. Throughout her career, Kristina has been directly involved in over $4 billion in acquisition and disposition transactions across numerous markets, with a concentration on the East Coast.

Prior to StepStone, Mr. Goldberg was a senior vice president at Courtland Partners, Ltd., an international real estate advisory firm which integrated with StepStone Real Estate. Prior to Courtland, Mr. Goldberg led the corporate finance and investor relations efforts for Associated Estates Realty Corporation, a publicly traded multifamily REIT. Before that, he spent over 12 years in the banking industry, working in a variety of roles.

Michael is a Senior Director in the Chicago office of JLL Capital Markets, Americas. He joined JLL as part of the HFF acquisition and has more than seven years of experience in commercial real estate finance and property sales. Michael specializes in the capitalization of retail and mixed-use investment real estate located throughout the Midwestern United States.
 
Prior to joining HFF in 2018, Michael worked for General Growth Properties (now Brookfield Properties Retail) in their leadership development program. During his career, Michael has been involved in more than 125 transactions totaling $5 billion of real estate asset sales and 7 million square feet, capitalized for major corporate, institutional, and private owners. He has also underwritten more than $10 billion of multi-tenant retail and mixed-use properties.

Joel Staffilino is the Head of Investments at Bridge33 Capital, where he is responsible for establishing and executing the company’s investment strategy.

Bridge33 is a private real estate investment firm with a portfolio of 15 million square feet across 54 properties in 25 states. The firm’s portfolio increased 40% in 2024 when the firm was one of the largest buyers of retail in the country.

Prior to joining Bridge33, he served as Vice President of Acquisitions and Dispositions at Brixmor, and led acquisitions and transaction teams at Glimcher Group and Phillips Edison & Company.

Over his career, he has driven the acquisition and disposition of over 25 million square feet of retail centers, representing over $3.5 billion in value.

Louis DeFino is a director of acquisitions located in Newport Beach, CA, whose primary focus is acquisitions and development of industrial properties along the west coast. His responsibilities include sourcing new acquisitions and development opportunities, negotiating PSA’s/term sheets on joint ventures, communicating with clients, investors, and brokers, presentations to investment committee and navigating internal approval processes, and facilitating the entire acquisition process all the way through closing. His primary markets include Northern California, Seattle, Portland, and San Diego. He also assists on dispositions of existing assets within these selected markets. He has worked on and closed 43 industrial acquisitions totaling $1.6 billion and 9 dispositions totaling $945 million as of Q2 2023, on behalf of 7 different institutional clients.

Mr. DeFino’s previous role at Nuveen Real Estate was as an associate focused on both office and industrial acquisitions from 2017 to 2018 and as an analyst on the multi-family team from 2014 to 2016. He was responsible for investment analysis, underwriting/ financial modelling, coordination of all due diligence efforts, preparation of investment memos, and completing pro-rations for closings. During this time as an associate/analyst, he worked on an additional 28 acquisitions totaling $1.43 billion in volume and $675 million in dispositions. Prior to joining Nuveen Real Estate, Mr. DeFino worked at Duff & Phelps in the real estate services group and worked on valuation of all types of commercial real estate.

Mr. DeFino graduated in December 2011 from the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor’s degree in real estate and Entrepreneurship. He is the current Southern California Board Member of the Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Association (WREAA) following his tenure as the Senior Market Director for Orange County. Mr. DeFino is also active within NAIOP Southern California YPG alumni committees, having graduated from the program in 2019, and currently leading the Selection Committee for the Young Professionals Group within NAIOP SoCal.

Gray Bouchillon oversees the industrial and logistics sector team globally for Nuveen Real Estate including all transactional and operational activity across the sector vertical. In addition, he is charged with defining the global logistics strategy, formulating partnerships and launching new sector-focused investment funds and initiatives.

Prior to joining Nuveen Real Estate in 2018, Gray served as president and chief investment officer of Evergreen Industrial Properties, the former U.S. industrial platform of TPG Real Estate which was acquired by Ivanhoe Cambridge in 2017. Before leading Evergreen, Gray worked at Colony Industrial as senior vice president as well as Cobalt Capital Partners, which was acquired by Colony in 2014. Over the course of his career, Gray has executed over $14bn in industrial transactions across more than 40 global markets.

Gray graduated with a B.S. in both Finance and Accounting from Indiana University and an M.B.A. from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. Based in Dallas, Gray currently serves as a member of Nuveen Real Estate’s Global Executive Leadership Team and the Americas Investment Committee. He also holds a CPA in the State of Texas.

Scott Marshall serves as chief customer officer for Prologis, a role he assumed on April 1, 2023. He leads customer-related initiatives across all business lines and geographies. Marshall also manages the teams responsible for broadening Prologis’ use of data-driven insights and executing the company's comprehensive customer strategy.

He joined Prologis in May 2021, where he served as the global head of the company’s Customer Led Solutions division, transforming the customer experience and expanding customer and broker relationships.

Prior to Prologis, Marshall served as CBRE's global chief client officer and held other numerous executive leadership positions, including Americas head of industrial and logistics and Americas president of investor leasing. Marshall was also president and chief development officer at Hana, where he and the team launched CBRE's flexible office space offering.

With 25 years of commercial real estate experience, Marshall’s expertise encompasses corporate strategy and executive team leadership, business operations, client account management and business development, asset management, acquisition and disposition strategies, finance, development and transactional brokerage. He has a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Bradley University.

Adam Tyler is a member of Cushman & Wakefield’s Industrial Advisory Group specializing in industrial investment sales throughout the Midwest. During his 21-year career, he has worked on both the ownership and brokerage sides of the business and has completed transactions in investment sales, development, acquisitions, dispositions and leasing. These transactions have exceeded 200 million square feet with a value in excess of $14.5 billion.

Based in Chicago and responsible for executing transactions across ten Midwest markets, Mr. Tyler’s broad transactional experience allows for best-in-class service to industrial clients. He is a full member of The National Association of Office and Industrial Parks (NAIOP).
