Mike Acton is a Managing Director of the firm and AEW’s Head of Research with responsibility for directing the activities of AEW Research, the firm’s in-house research group. As one of the founding members of AEW Research in 1990, Mike has over three decades of expertise as an economic analyst and forecaster. The resources offered by AEW Research are an essential component of the firm’s successful investment process. He collaborates closely with senior experts from all sectors of the firm to formulate core through opportunistic equity and debt investment strategies that align clients’ risk and reward objectives with prevailing market prospects. Additionally, he played a vital role in shaping the strategy for AEW's listed securities business, which was launched in 1995.
During his career, Mike has also actively contributed to the development of various proprietary research tools, notably playing a key role in the creation of the highly regarded and widely read AEW Relative Value Index. His important contributions to the advancement of research on real estate as an institutional asset class led to his 2023 PREA Graaskamp Research Award1, a prestigious recognition to those who contribute to the common body of knowledge and insights gained through their significant research. He holds a permanent position on the Investment, Risk Management and Compliance Committees within the organization. Mike plays an integral part within the firm’s Senior Leadership Team, actively contributing to AEW’s overall strategic vision and direction. Prior to joining AEW, he was with DRI/McGraw-Hill where he managed the Metropolitan Area Forecasting Service. He is a graduate of Bates College (B.A.), and a CFA charterholder, as well as a member of the CFA Institute and CFA Society Boston.
Nikki Greenberg

Nikki Greenberg is a world-leading futurist, focused on the trends and technologies shaping cities of the future. She explores the convergence of real space and cyber space. She will explore the possibilities of emerging technologies and innovative ways of thinking and provide insights on ways to capitalize upon it.
Nikki has held cross-functional leadership positions with a focus on innovation and design. Most recently she served as Head of Technology Strategy for QIC, an Australian investment manager, where she led the transformation of its’ $17Bn AUM real estate portfolio and $4Bn development pipeline, towards a tech-enabled future. In New York she led the innovation efforts of the #1 private brokerage Brown Harris Stevens, for new luxury residential developments. In Australia, she designed and developed transformative mixed-use residential, retail and masterplan projects with Lendlease and Koichi Takada Architects. Proudly serving as both a three-term co-chair of ULI New York’s Real Estate Technology and Innovation Council, and Global Ambassador of Women in PropTech, (which she also founded), Nikki leads the industry’s conversation on built world innovation.
Andrew Ross Sorkin
Author and NYT Columnist
Andrew Ross Sorkin is an award-winning journalist for The New York Times and a co-anchor of Squawk Box, CNBC’s signature morning program. He is also the founder and editor-at-large of DealBook, an online daily financial report published by The Times that he started in 2001. Sorkin is the author of Too Big to Fail: How Wall Street and Washington Fought to Save the Financial System — and Themselves (Viking, 2009), which chronicled the events of the 2008 financial crisis. The book won the 2010 Gerald Loeb Award for Best Business Book, and was shortlisted for the 2010 Samuel Johnson Prize and the 2010 Financial Times Business Book of the Year Award. The book spent more than six months on the New York Times Best Seller list in hardcover and paperback. The book was adapted as a movie for HBO Films in 2011. Sorkin was a co-producer of the film, which was nominated for 11 Emmy Awards. His next book, 1929: The Inside Story of the Greatest Crash in Wall Street History, will be published in October 2025.
Sorkin is also co-creator of the drama series “Billions” on Show-Time starring Paul Giamatti and Damien Lewis. He has several new film and television projects in development. Sorkin is one the preeminent interviewers in the nation, known for his incisive, nuanced long-form conversations with the biggest newsmakers in the world, from Elon Musk to Lebron James to Kim Kardashian and Hillary Clinton. Just this year, he won the Emmy award for “Outstanding Live Interview.”
This fall, Sorkin will host a new limited streaming interview series for NBC that will be broadcast on NBC News Now and will be available on demand on Peacock, YouTube, NBCNews.com, as well as platforms like Pluto TV, Samsung TV Plus, The Roku Channel and NBC News’ apps on Roku, Fire TV and Apple TV.
Over the years, Sorkin has broken news of many major mergers and acquisitions in the pages of The Times and has been at the forefront of Wall Street news. He reported extensively on the financial crisis of 2008, its aftermath on Wall Street and the government bailout of major investment banks, with coverage including the collapse of Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers, and the A.I.G. bailout. He has broken news of deals including Chase’s acquisition of J.P. Morgan and Hewlett-Packard’s acquisition of Compaq. He also led The Times’s coverage of Vodafone’s $183 billion hostile bid for Mannesmann, resulting in the world’s largest takeover ever.
As a leading voice about Wall Street and corporate America, Sorkin is a frequent guest on national television and radio programs, as well as a lecturer at universities across the country. He has appeared on NBC’s “Today Show,” PBS’s “NewsHour,” HBO’ “Real Time with Bill Maher,” NPR’s “Talk of the Nation,” and many others.
He won a Gerald Loeb Award in 2004 for breaking the news of I.B.M.’s historic sale of its PC business to Lenovo. He was also a finalist in the commentary category for his DealBook column. He also won a Society of American Business Editors and Writers Award for breaking news in 2005 and again in 2006. In 2007, the World Economic Forum named him a Young Global Leader.
Sorkin is co-chair of The New York Public Library’s Business Leadership Council and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Sorkin began writing for The Times in 1995 under unusual circumstances: he hadn’t yet graduated from high school. Sorkin is a graduate of Cornell University.
