Aaron Thompson Memorial Golf Tournament

Aaron Robin Thompson 'Horse' was many things to many people. A devoted father, a loyal teammate, a trusted colleague, and a proud member of the Clarks Beach Golf Club community.

Originally from Wellington, Aaron made Auckland his home and became a cornerstone of Ramblers Softball Club from 2002, spending 22 years as a player, coach, umpire and committee member. He won six New Zealand Club Nationals with Ramblers, a remarkable achievement, and right up until his passing continued to give back to the sport and club he loved in every way he could. He was the kind of man who was equally at home on the diamond, on the sideline cheering his teammates, or behind the scenes making things happen.

At Hino NZ, where he spent seven years as part of the Auckland team, Aaron was known for his dedication, reliability and genuine warmth. His colleagues described him as a beacon of light and a pillar of strength, someone whose actions always spoke louder than words.

Above all, Aaron was a proud and devoted father to Sam and Georgia, who are already following in his footsteps on the diamond.

Aaron passed away suddenly on 28 March 2024, far too soon. In a final act of generosity that was entirely in keeping with who he was, Aaron passed as a hero, as an organ donor.

Now in its third year, this tournament has grown into an annual tradition at his beloved Clarks Beach Golf Club. Each year, friends, family, colleagues and fellow golfers come together to celebrate his life, honour his memory, and keep his spirit alive on the course. A celebration of a great teammate, a great role model, and a great man gone far too soon.
