Advanced Seminar
October 12-13, 2024
The Advanced Seminar represents the last stage in the 90 day formal training format in the Smith Method of Training. All of the elements of this method come together in this final stage.

It is during this level that all remote cues of the e-collar are transitioned to the neck. At this stage we can have our dogs happily complying to cues to come to us, stand still, turn, and can enforce cues for steadiness, honoring, handling, here, heel, etc. The Advanced Level successfully transitions dogs from working on training pigeons to adeptly working game birds.

Additional subjects that are discussed during this event include; transitions to hunting, wild birds, guiding, retrieving, working scent and handling dogs in challenging conditions, traveling with dogs, etc.

If you feel your dog is not quite ready for this level of training, that is okay! We can give you the information that you need to get your dog to the Advanced Level and get you on the path to continuing your dog’s training. Don’t let this seminar opportunity pass you by if your dog is not at the stage of training that you would like, there is still lots of to be gained by attending!

This seminar is highly tailored to each dog and handler’s needs, goals, and desired level of proficiency. From this stage in training dogs are ready to hit the hunting field or to successfully begin their career path in field trials. The Advanced Seminar also is a great opportunity for some tune up work with your trained and seasoned dog. Utilizing the elements of the formal training, we can help you put that fine polish back on your dog that may have gotten a little lax during the last hunting season or field trial season.

This weekend can help you bring to fruition all of the work and time you have spent developing your dog. This event provides you a unique environment and opportunity to ensure your dog has the training and experience in place to help you achieve goal of your ultimate upland bird dog.

*Seminars begin at 8:00 each morning. There will be a break for lunch and the seminar will conclude at 4:00 pm each day. Each seminar agenda may fluctuate slightly depending on weather conditions, location, etc. It is a good idea to reach out to your seminar host for detailed information for this particular seminar.
