Where
Lee County, Virginia Pennington Gap Community Center 41670 W Morgan Ave Pennington Gap, VA 24277
When
April 14, 2026 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
Across Southwest Virginia, many families are concerned about memory changes in themselves or their loved ones, but they often don’t know where to turn for support. The Appalachian Memory & Aging Initiative is working to bring brain health education directly to rural communities so people can recognize whether changes in thinking and memory are normal aging or signs that warrant concern. We are also offering local resources and opportunities for brain health screenings to help Southwest Virginians learn more about their cognitive health and make changes to support healthy aging. This Spring, we are hosting a series of free community seminars in Lee, Scott, Smyth, and Russell Counties. The presentations and optional cognitive screenings will be provided by Andrea Sartori, PhD, a neuropsychologist, and Kelley Kinder, MA, a Licensed Professional Counselor and PsyD candidate. Our goal is to help older adults and their care partners better understand memory changes and connect them with resources that support healthy aging. These events are free and open to the public, and we encourage anyone with questions about memory or brain health to attend.
