The Ankler x Backstage Screening Series: Expats
An FYC screening and Q&A presented by Prime Video
Katey Rich, The Ankler awards editor, sits with Lulu Wang (Creator/Director/Writer/EP) and Sarayu Blue (“Hilary Starr”, actor) to discuss how the series interrogates the nuances of blame and accountability through stories of privilege, grief, and loss.

Expats, set against the vibrant and tumultuous tapestry of 2014 Hong Kong, takes a vulnerable look on three American women - Margaret (Nicole Kidman), Hilary (Sarayu Blue), and Mercy (Ji-young Yoo) - whose lives intersect after a sudden family tragedy. The series explores what happens when the line between victimhood and culpability becomes blurred.
