Anne Hoagland Holloway
A Celebration of Life
 October 12, 1956- December 8, 2025
We invite you to celebrate the life of our mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend. Please RSVP by February 28, 2026 to help give us an accurate head count.
Anne Louise Hoagland Holloway was born on October 12, 1956, in Pryor, Oklahoma, to Jon and Kathleen (Tracy) Hoagland. Anne was the fourth of five Hoagland children. Her two older sisters were particularly overjoyed at her arrival and treated her like a real-life baby doll, with the utmost care and adoration—much the same way they treated her in the final months and days of her life.

Anne relocated with her family in 1965 to Helena, Arkansas, a small town in the Mississippi Delta. It was here in the South that Anne developed her flair for cooking, her eclectic love of music, a true sense of hospitality, good manners, a deep-rooted desire for equality for all people, and an accent that never left—even after living on the West Coast for 40 years.

Of all the things Anne fell in love with in her new Southern home, the greatest was Fred. Anne and Fred were high school sweethearts and married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on December 31, 1977. They later welcomed two daughters, Elizabeth and Emily. The Holloways relocated to California’s Central Coast in 1984 and later to Lake Oswego, Oregon, in 1993. Above all else, family was most important to Anne. Although she went on to hold many jobs and share her numerous talents, Fred and the girls remained her top priority—even in her final days.

Anne attended Central High School, where her self-proclaimed “claim to fame” was being a star oboe player. Her family’s claim to fame for her (to which she would just roll her eyes) was that, upon the urging of a teacher, she took an IQ test and placed at a genius level. Anne had a brilliant mind and was a human form of Alexa before Google ever existed. “Just ask the family genius” was often thrown around to get a rise out of her, but in truth, it was usually said to get an answer to a question—which she always got right.

Anne went on to attend the University of Mississippi and graduated with honors in the spring of 1977. After graduation, Anne began her career working as one of a handful of women at the time for IBM. Throughout her professional life, she wore many hats and held many titles: full-time mother, caregiver for her father, parish youth minister, Catholic school religion teacher, Development Director at Jesuit High School Portland (2002–2007), Development Director at Catholic Charities Oregon (2007–2014), and Senior Philanthropy Officer for Jesuit USA West (2017–2025).

Anne was a dedicated professional who put her whole heart into every role she held. She ultimately felt her time was best spent where she knew she was making a difference in the world. Jesuit values center on care for the whole person, sharing gifts, pursuing justice, and having concern for the poor and marginalized—all things Anne deeply cared about. The Jesuit motto, Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam (AMDG), means “For the greater glory of God.” Anne not only believed in this mission but dedicated much of her professional life to living out its meaning.

Anne received her most treasured title in 2010 with the birth of her first grandchild. Self-proclaimed “Snappy” was a role she had waited her entire life to step into. When often asked, “Why the name Snappy?” she was quick to reply that she was too young and spry to be Grandma—and that it was just one vowel away from “snippy,” a self-recognized character trait!

Anne adored her role as Snappy. No matter the grandchild or their stage of life, she always found a way to be part of their world—and most of all, to make it fun. Snappy believed in the magic of childhood, a gift she received from her own father, and she created a world where imagination flourished. With Snappy, a regular activity would somehow always turn into something special—and that was truly magic.

Anne was an amazing cook, an avid reader, a daily Wordler, someone who thought math was fun, a curator of craft cocktails, a collector of cookbooks, a puzzler, an Oregon Ducks fan, an artist, a sage giver of advice, quick witted with a great sense of humor, a mother, a wife, a sister,  an aunt, and a friend. She will be forever loved and deeply missed.

Anne is survived by her four siblings, Kate Dubost, Mary Ladner, Mark Hoagland, and Jon Hoagland; her husband, Fred Holloway; her daughters, Elizabeth (Dustin) White and Emily (Michael) Humm; and her five beloved grandchildren, Connor, Keagan, and Charlotte Humm, and Holden and Griffin White. Anne also leaves behind nieces, nephews, and countless dear friends.

Anne passed away peacefully at home on December 8, 2025 surrounded by her loved ones after having courageously battled leukemia for two years. In honor of Anne’s life, please consider becoming a blood or platelet donor or making a contribution to the American Red Cross or Blood Cancer United.

“When your days are numbered everything becomes precious and all that remains is to share the immeasurable light you have learned to feel inside of yourself. Big, wide, endless light that strains against your seams and begs to be released, to go big and wide and everywhere so that even after you are gone, your love will live forever” - Brian Andreas
