Rejuvenating Joy
Rejuvenating Joy may conjure up different thoughts and emotions to each of us. For the retreat planning team it means remembering, renewing, tapping, finding joy or being open to joy finding us. We can’t wait to explore and experience what rejuvenating joy means to you!

The poem 'Joy Chose You' by Donna Ashworth describes our hope for your experience at this retreat.

Joy does not arrive with a fanfare
on a red carpet strewn
with the flowers of a perfect life...
Keynote Speaker
Leading With Joy:
Practices to Promote and Enhance Joy Using the Cultural Capital of Families, Children, & Communities
Cultural capital is a reservoir of joy, waiting to be tapped. By nurturing and promoting positive racial and cultural identity, fostering intergenerational knowledge and resilience, emphasizing culturally responsive, culturally affirming, and culturally sustaining practices, we can promote joy in children, families, and communities.

Book Clubs
Aligning with our retreat theme of Rejuvenating Joy, Buell Leaders are hosting two joy-centered book clubs, culminating with a conversation at the retreat in June. Participants are in charge of purchasing their books.
Allison Alexander
Cohort 13
Together we will explore Unearthing Joy: A Guide to Culturally and Historically Responsive Curriculum and Instruction by Gholdy Muhammad. Participation at all sessions is encouraged, but in no way a requirement. Whether you read the book devouring each word or simply admire the cover after purchasing it, you are welcome in this club! This multi-sensory book is designed for educators, but has something for everyone who works with other humans. In a world that could benefit from a bit more joy, this book club seeks to nourish the soul and ignite joyful delight.

Saturday, June 8, 2024

Shela Blankinship
cohort 2
In the spirit of Joyful Leadership, we will have delightful conversations around the book, Leading with Joy; Practices for Uncertain Times by Akaya Windwood and Rajasvini Bhansali. This book club will explore how leaders can reclaim their purpose and embrace joy. The joy of book clubs comes within the conversations, stepping into dialog with peers in a safe and encouraging space. Plan to get comfortable and grab a drink of choice for an enjoyable evening with fellow Buellers.

Originally constructed in 1902 to serve as a stock exchange for local mining enterprises, this boutique hotel, known as The Mining Exchange, has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment. The aim was to seamlessly blend the historic architecture with contemporary elegance. Situated in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs, guests will find themselves in proximity to outdoor attractions like the Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak, as well as a diverse range of dining and shopping experiences.
