Acting Our Age:
Voices of the Harbors
Saturday, November 23, 7pm and Sunday, November 24, 2pm
Plymouth Harbor is pleased to partner with The Playworks Group for this unique live stage-and-film production featuring nine remarkable residents of Plymouth Harbor who tell the stories of their lives in Acting Our Age 2024: Voices of the Harbors. Born 1935 to 1945, the group shows us how they used the challenges of their childhoods to leave home and create new lives during a defining time of innovation in America and internationally.
Celebrating its Florida premiere, the Sarasota edition of Acting Our Age 2024: Voices of the Harbors is performed live by the cast members. The 90-minute performance is accompanied by continuous projected images from the cast’s lives and times - weaving their experiences together, and showing the historical events they experienced. Project creators Lyndall Hare and Steve Umberger call it “a living documentary that honors the achievements of the group and shows a resilience that resonates with everyone who sees it. These people have colorful stories to tell, and they're often as hilarious as they are touching.”
The nine in Acting Our Age 2024 are Carl P. Denney, Winnie S. Downes, Michael Fox, Ella Gross, George Gross, Bob Lifeso, Barbara Kelly, Cheryl Mooney, and Lynne Woodman. Born in the last decade of “The Silent Generation” (1928-1945) they were inspired and informed by their families’ challenges, and lifted by the rising tide of opportunities in America that carried them to new places and professions including psychiatrist, radiologist, spinal trauma surgeon, nurse, teacher, corporate executive, and artist.
Acting Our Age 2024: Voices of the Harbors is the result of an intensive year-long process. The script for the project is created from material gathered through interviews, writing and group discussions. The project is produced by The Works (Playworks Group LLC) with a professional production team that includes Emmy and Addy award winning film and theatre artists. The Acting Our Age series celebrates its 5th year and 4th production with this Sarasota debut.
"Thank you for demonstrating the vibrant and creative lives of these people. Their stories were funny and poignant. A masterpiece!"
