Big data, meaning the analysis of large datasets, is widely used in health care for discovery and decision making. Big data exist in most large health care organizations and laboratory data typically constitute a significant fracion of those data. This session will highlight the role of big data in laboratory medicine, approaches to its analysis, and discuss selected case examples from the literature..

Learning Objectives:
After participating in this presentation and question & answer session, the audience will understand the following:
    1. 1. Describe the uses of Big Data in modern health care with an emphasis on clinical laboratory data. 
    2. 2. Describe approaches to Big Data analysis. 
    3. 3. Describe the riska and dangers of Big Data.
