Xochimilco is a district in the south of Mexico City built on Lake Xochimilco. The name Xochimilco is a combination of the prehispanic language Nahuatl and means “where the flowers grow.” Xochimilco is famous for its chinampas (floating gardens) and its trajineras (flat-bottomed boats). It is a popular weekend outing for Mexicans and tourists.
