11th annual baby buggy walk
In recognition of Infant Mortality Awareness Month, we will be sponsoring a 1.5 mile "Baby Buggy Walk" on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Patterson Park (Pulaski Monument) from 11AM to 2PM. We are excited to host a variety of vendors that will offer on-site information and services to participants. Our walk will also feature Kids' Games & Activities, face painting, free food, music, and so much more!

HOW TO LOCATE THE VENUE?

Our 11th Annual Baby Buggy Walk will be hosted at Patterson Park Pulaski Monument. The entrance to the Southside of Patterson Park/near Pulaski Monument is located on the corner of Linwood St. & Eastern Ave.
On the day of the walk, you will see a large banner titled: "Baby Buggy Walk." You can also look out for balloons, decoration, and sponsorship signage.
INFANT MORTALITY AWARENESS MONTH AND THE BABY BUGGY WALK
Infant mortality is a national crisis in the United States. The national infant mortality rate is 6.1 deaths out of every 1,000 live births--through the figure varies for different populations and areas. Underserved populations, especially Black and Brown people, live in poor life circumstances such as lack of access to safe housing, lack of access to good healthcare, and low-income wages. These are all proven risk factors for infant mortality according to the National Institute for Children's Health Quality.
Baltimore Healthy Start, Inc., was established in 1991 as a 501(c) 3 nonprofit corporation by the Baltimore City Health Department to implement the original federal Healthy Start infant mortality reduction initiative. We promote health and wellness by providing expecting and new mothers and their families with the health care and resources they need to nurture their children.
We created the Baby Buggy Walk in 2012 in recognition of infant mortality. The Baby Buggy Walk (trademarked by BHS) is a fundraiser walk hosted annually in September in recognition of Infant Mortality Awareness Month.

Baltimore Healthy Start, Inc. celebrated the 10th anniversary of our Baby Buggy Walk, created in 2012 in recognition of Infant Mortality. We were joined at Patterson Park, Pulaski Monument by staff, our clients, Baltimore community members and even Nick Mosby, the President of Baltimore City Council!
