Baldwin / Buckley Debate Screening
Join us for a screening of the 1965 Cambridge debate between James Baldwin and William F. Buckley, Jr. on the topic, "The American Dream is at the expense of the American Negro." This event is co-sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Church, Manhattan Beach Community Church, South Bay Baha'i Community, and MB United.
Baldwin, a Black American novelist and essayist, achieved national acclaim at the height of the civil rights movement for his book, The Fire Next Time, in which he indicts the structural racism that has held Black Americans back. William F. Buckley, Jr. was a writer, conservative political commentator, and founder of National Review.
A panel discussion will follow the screening. MB United member Tim Jones will moderate and panelists include Dr. Anthony Lee, Dr. Isla Garraway, and Dr. Nicholas Buccola, author of The Fire is Upon Us.
