Hey there, friends! My name is Jenn Charon. I am so excited to start a sign language class with all of you. I love the opportunity to combine my passions of teaching and signing to bring you this class. There will be 4 different days for you to choose from:
Mondays 6:30-7:30pm (Course Session A - Beginning)
Tuesdays 6:30-7:30pm (Course Session B - Intermediate)
Wednesdays 3:00-4:00pm - (Course Session A - Beginning)
Wednesdays 4:00-5:00pm - (Course Session B - Intermediate)
Thursdays 12:30-1:30 (Course Session B - Intermediate)
*Each session is only 1 hour

Through this course, you will learn basic and essential signs, ASL sentence structure, grammar, descriptive words, and understand why facial expression and body language are important. My goal is to help you feel confident in having basic conversations using sign language. I encourage you to come learn the language and culture I fell in love with. Maybe you too will find a passion or a career.

I am passionate about sign language, teaching, and making others feel safe, seen, valued, and loved. I work on staff with my husband Chris at The Living Room Community Church as the Early Childhood Director.
I grew up with a passion for sign language. There was a deaf family in my church when I was growing up and I first learned sign from them. I then pursued interpreting as a career in college at Portland Community College and Mt. San Antonio College. I have worked as a sign language interpreter in schools, as well as being the sign language interpreter for the 20 deaf adults who were residents at California Home for the Adult Deaf (CHAD).

Course Session A (May - June)
Cost: $90 for 8 weeks
Each day in May and June will be covering Session A.

Week 1-4
Introduction to Conversations Part 1
Topics include: fingerspelling the alphabet and numbers, greetings, exchange of personal information, ASL sentence structure, question and responses, family signs, days of the week, and telling time.
Week 5-8
Introduction to Conversations Part 2
Topics include: Use of emotion, body language, and facial expressions, descriptive signs, words for objects and space, personality traits, colors, verbs and actions, directional signs, and ASL tenses.
Course Session B (May - June)
Cost: $90 for 8 weeks
Each day in May and June will be covering Session B.
Each class is 1 hour for only 1 day per week.

Intermediate Conversations Part 1
Topics include: learning signs for different foods, clothing, locations around town, weather and seasons, professions, social media, and routines.
Week 5-8
Intermediate Conversations Part 2
Topics include: learning signs for health and wellness, animals, states, countries, government officials, medical signs, and religious signs.
Following our May-June session, our next session will start in the fall.
