Outdated building codes leave millions of U.S. homes and communities vulnerable to the increasing impacts of climate change, but that doesn’t have to be the case. This year, FEMA’s BRIC “Building Code Plus Up” initiative will allow up to an additional $2 million per state and $25 million for federally recognized tribes to be dedicated for building code activities. These funds could be used for resilience activities ranging from implementing the adoption of new or enhanced codes to developing a professional workforce capability to supporting code enforcement.
