Chris Borrell
the fathering project

I was born in North Queensland and raised in a family of all boys with an emphasis on sport and the outdoors. This fostered a childlike passion for all things ‘rough and tumble’ with the majority of my energy going into rugby union and surfing which I still enjoy to this day. I have been married for 8 years and have a beautiful 3 year old daughter and an 18 month old son.
I come from an interesting professional background. I graduated with a Bachelor of Business Management majoring in International Business and a Bachelor of Law from the University of Queensland in 2010. I have completed my Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (PLT) Griffith University, 2011 and was admitted as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of Queensland, June 2012.
I moved into the corporate finance arena working at Macquarie Bank. During my tenure there I completed a Master of Finance at Griffith University, 2019. As a side project I also completed a Graduate Diploma in Ministry at Christian Heritage College as I enjoy preaching.
The plan was to work in the investment banking sphere for the next 10-15 years, buy my wife a farm as she is a country girl and then move into the youth and fathering space. However my life was fast forwarded when my mum tapped me on the shoulder in September 2019 and asked me a life changing question, “Chris, what do you want to be remembered for when you’re 65 years old?”. I instantly replied, “Mum, I want to be a father to the fatherless” and the rest is history!

The Fathering Project is a not-for-profit research-based organisation with a vision to ensure all children have an effective father or father figure in their lives. We engage your father community to support students to achieve better academically, relate better socially, cope better emotionally and enjoy better development outcomes. Research shows that when fathers are engaged in children’s education, student grades and test scores improve, attendance increases, and students are more involved in school activities.
