Veteran Retreat
Homeward Bound Adirondacks would like to invite you to a Veteran Retreat. The retreat will be Nov 08-10, 2024 at Camp Voyageur - Massawepie Scout Camp in Tupper Lake, NY. Register now and join us for a weekend of nature therapy in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. Meet and recreate with other veterans.
NOTE: We are embracing the beauty of simplicity and community by transitioning to shared, rustic accommodations. By living together in gender-segregated quarters, we aim to deepen our connection with each other and with nature. This change reflects our commitment to fostering a strong, supportive community and offering an authentic retreat experience. We understand this is a shift from our previous arrangements and appreciate the adaptability and openness of our veterans. We're dedicated to ensuring a comfortable and respectful environment for everyone.
This retreat is a "rustic" retreat. You must be comfortable sharing the same living quarters with other veterans. There will be gender-segregated quarters and bathrooms.
NOTE: Retreats are free once people arrive - however we are not in a position to pay for transportation to get to and from the retreat venue. Our retreats are made possible thanks to the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program and the Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer Support Project. Let's connect our heroes with the tranquility they deserve.
Vets Helping Vets
Veterans build resilience and support networks through peer to peer discussions and activities. Retreats offer an opportunity to build comradery with other Vets while relaxing in a wilderness environment.
Policy
Our new screening process involves direct contact from a HBA Case Manager for all registered veterans to assess eligibility and prioritize attendance. We're focusing first on veterans enrolled in our Case Management and those who haven't yet experienced a retreat, particularly those facing service-related challenges. If a retreat reaches capacity under these criteria, we may need to schedule you for a later date. We understand this might be inconvenient and appreciate your understanding. Our goal is to support as many veterans as possible, prioritizing those dealing with service-related trauma or difficulties. A member of our HBA team will be in touch shortly for a pre-screening discussion about your specific situation.
Covid Policy
Given the resurgence of the Covid virus this winter, alongside the notable presence of the flu and RSV, and compounded by a recent positive case among our veterans post-retreat, it's crucial to emphasize the importance of vigilant health monitoring. We urge all veterans to closely monitor for any symptoms of Covid, the flu, or RSV before participating in a retreat. Should you notice even the slightest symptoms of any of these illnesses, we strongly recommend undergoing appropriate testing or consulting with a healthcare provider beforehand. Additionally, if you begin to develop symptoms while at the retreat, please immediately inform a staff member and/or request the necessary test. Concealing symptoms helps neither you nor the other veterans in attendance. The health and safety of every participant is paramount, especially considering the diverse immune system strengths among our veteran attendees. To support this priority, please be aware that we provide Covid tests, thermometers, and masks at our retreats.
Waiting List
If there are any cancellations, those first on the waiting list, will be offered these on first come basis. Feel free to contact Homeward Bound Adirondacks to get on the waiting list
Cancelations
If you need to cancel, please cancel with
HBA as soon as possible. Please do not wait until the day before the retreat. An empty RSVP is one veteran who misses out.
