About the presenters
Dr Maryane Gomez is a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) with over 14 years of experience working with the paediatric population, specifically focusing on children who has CAS in the past decade. She completed her Postdoctoral research fellowship at The University of Sydney where she managed a multi-site randomised controlled trial investigating the effectiveness of the Dynamic, Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) for children with CAS. She is the director of Speech Play Grow and continues to hold a research position at The University of Sydney. Along with being passionate about providing children who have CAS with EBP intervention, Dr Gomez is passionate about training and mentoring SLPs to improve their diagnostic and therapeutic skills. Professor Tricia McCabe is a Professor and Researcher at The University of Sydney who has extensive experience in research, teaching, and clinical practice centered on enhancing treatments for moderate to severe speech impairments in both children and adults. Her work spans several key areas, including the development of treatments for CAS. She is particularly focused on disorders affecting the production of polysyllabic words and longer linguistic units. Additionally, her research incorporates innovative methods, such as the use of ultrasound for biofeedback in speech pathology, to further advance therapeutic techniques. Dr Donna Thomas is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher and The University of Sydney with a special interest in CAS. Dr Thomas has significant research and clinical experience working with children who have mild CAS, and has researched face to face and telehealth delivery of Rapid Syllable Transition Treatment (ReST). Dr Thomas will be presenting the ReST portion of
Part 1- Diagnosing and Treating CAS.
Evyenia (Nia) Michellis is a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist with a special interest in supporting children with CAS and their families in Tasmania. Inspired by her work with children, Nia has authored 6 children's books and created digital resources, which she sells on Teachers Pay Teachers. She is dedicated to raising awareness about CAS across Australia. Nia will provide practical guidance to help us navigate and secure funding for children with CAS.
