CCSW Learn: Christian Education and Leadership Development
CCSW Learn events seek to equip, ministers and lay leaders with education to help them better serve their congregations.

What to expect:

Explore faith-based pedagogy, servant leadership, and integrating faith with learning. Engage with scholars, educators, and leaders to tackle challenges, cultivate partnerships, and equip the next generation. Join us for an inspiring event fostering transformative education and leadership.


*This CCSW Learn course will satisfy a requirement for Commissioned Ministers foundational training. It will NOT substitute for the required 3 hour, graduate-level, ATS Accredited course required for people seeking ordination. This course focuses on Practical Ministry.

This event will be taking place ONLINE

The Region provides meaningful educational resources for clergy and congregational leaders. Throughout the year, we offer one-day, six-hour workshops for ministry leadership development, host an annual elders retreats, conduct book discussions, and serve to connect congregations and ministers with the best practices for ministry, mission, witness, and justice.

Rev. Paula Brooks
First Christian Church, Canyon TX
Rev. Paula Brooks, Pastor of First Christian Church, Canyon, Texas has decades of experience in Children’s Ministry. She taught elementary school for many years. Served as the Associate Minister at First Christian Church, Midland, Texas for fifteen year where she had primary responsibility for Children’s Ministry. She is a frequent camp director.
Rev. Mariah Newell
Cypress Creek Christian Church, Spring TX
Rev. Mariah Newell, Associate Minister, Cypress Creek Christian Church. Rev. Newell started serving in Youth Ministry while in college at TCU. She became Cypress Creek’s full-time Youth Minister following graduation. She has over a decade of experience working with you and has a particular passion to enable all young people to feel welcome and included in the full life of the congregation.
Rev. Dr. Kamilah Hall Sharp
The Gathering, Dallas TX
Rev. Dr. Kamilah Hall-Sharp, Co-Pastor, The Gathering: A Womanist Church in the Disciples of Christ. Dr. Hall Sharp has a PhD in Biblical studies from Brite Divinity School. The Gathering’s worship and preaching pattern is always collaborative and invites the whole congregation to talk back to the text, imagining how the word functions in the 21st Century.
Rev. Lana Covington
First Christian Church, Alpine TX
Rev. Lana Covington, Pastor, First Christian Church, Alpine, TX. Rev. Covington began serving at First Christian Church, Alpine as a Youth Sponsor. Over her time as a member she accepted several different roles in the life of the congregation. In 2009, when it came time for the congregation to search for its next pastor they looked within and found the one God had called to be their shepherd. Rev. Covington will share her story of her journey from Pew to Pulpit with an eye to how congregations today can nurture the calling of each member.
