The Central Michigan Chippewas and the Ball State Cardinals are set to square off in a Mid-American matchup at 7 p.m. ET Nov. 17 at Scheumann Stadium. The Chippewas will be strutting in after a victory while Ball State will be stumbling in from a defeat.

The Kent State Golden Flashes typically have all the answers at home, but last week CMU proved too difficult a challenge. CMU put the hurt on Kent State with a sharp 54-30 win. The victory came about thanks to a strong surge after the first quarter to overcome a 14 to nothing deficit. RB Lew Nichols III went supernova for CMU as he rushed for four TDs and 215 yards on 43 carries.

Meanwhile, it was all tied up 17-17 at halftime, but the Cardinals were not quite the Northern Illinois Huskies' equal in the second half when they met last Wednesday. Ball State had victory within their grasp but couldn't quite capture it as the squad lost 30-29 to the Huskies. Despite the loss, Ball State got a solid performance out of WR Justin Hall, who punched in two rushing touchdowns.

This next game is expected to be close, with the Chippewas going off at just a 1.5-point favorite. But bettors beware: they are only 1-4 against the spread when favored.

CMU's win brought them up to 6-4 while Ball State's defeat pulled them down to 5-5. Two defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: CMU is 211th worst in the nation in passing touchdowns allowed, with 19 on the season. The Cardinals have experienced some struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the contest with the 206th most rushing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 18 on the season. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
