ABOUT COALITION FOR FOOD AND HEALTH EQUITY The Coalition for Food and Health Equity is a tax exempt nonprofit organization that places hunger within the larger context of racial health equity, working to end hunger, improve health, and advance economic equity within Black and brown communities.
Health is inextricably linked to diet. Yet, lack of access to nutritious, affordable food is a common reality for millions of Americans. Especially low income and racial/ethnic minority Americans, and those residing in food aphartied communities in urban and rural areas. Simultaneously, the heartbeat of our nation, our small businesses, those that open their doors each day to hear, listen, and nurture their neighborhoods while working to keep their dreams alive, are a frequently overlooked asset to transforming community health outcomes.
The Coalition for Food and Health Equity (CFHE) understands that racial health inequity is a complex problem that requires a complex solution. CFHE is a non-profit organization that places hunger within the larger context of racial health equity, working to end hunger, improve health, and advance economic equity within historically marginalized communities. Our three core pillars uphold CFHE's mission: to UpRoot, ReImagine, and ReBuild our current health and food systems. We stand firmly in the mission that racial health disparity results from historical and structurally oppressive systems designed to maintain cultures of disease, poverty, and violence impacting communities of color the most. Our current programs actualize our pillars by providing innovative direct and indirect services, outreach, community building, and advocacy efforts focused on establishing cultures of inclusive health.
We have a big goal and that’s to transform health for 1 million children and families in New Jersey by 2025 through our hunger and wellness programs. Your support will be critical to address hunger, provide healthy food options, and stimulate local economies.
At the Coalition for Food and Health Equity, we know that we are stronger when we stand together. This is why we want to work with local communities to disrupt the way in which hunger and health is addressed across diverse populations. We want to make a real and lasting impact in the communities we serve and re-imagine the system on behalf of all residents as well as re-define the meaning of community.
