Junior Investigator Competition
Submit a 1000-word essay describing your original research and its relevance to CIRMS, using our template. Email your submission to [email protected] with subject: CIRMS 2025 JI Award: [Corresponding author].
By submitting an essay, you commit to register and present the work at the Meeting — The competition is open to current students (high school through graduate) and recent graduates within one year of completing their last degree. One submission per investigator, view a sample essay for guidance. All accepted submissions will present posters with 3-minute lightning talks, and select essays may be chosen for full oral presentations. The top three presenters — as evaluated by the CIRMS Executive Committee and the Caswell Fellows, and announced on April 9 — will each receive a $500 cash prize.
Due: March 14, 2025 — FIRM
Radiation Technology Essay Competition
Submit a 500 word essay on a radiation technology or process, describing its technical aspects, radiation type, and societal benefits, [email protected] with subject CIRMS 2025 Technology Essay: [Your Name].
By entering the competition, you commit to register and present your poster at the Meeting (registration is free for Universities at Shady Grove students) — Topics may include proton therapy for cancer treatment, gamma-ray sterilization, cargo surveillance, or other innovative applications. We welcome creative choices beyond our suggested topics. Open to students, high school through undergraduate, with special invitation to all students from The Universities at Shady Grove. All authors will present a poster and will also be invited to give a 3-minute lightning talk on their subject. See our sample essay and corresponding sample poster for guidance. Experts will evaluate contributions and award $200 cash prizes to the top two essays.
