ABOUT THE SOLA FOUNDATION
The SoLa Foundation, the non-profit affiliate ofSoLa Impact, believes “If you can see it, you can be it.” We work to end intergenerational poverty in South Los Angeles through community development and creating new access to economic and educational opportunity.
The foundation focuses on closing critical access gaps in South LA, particularly the racial digital divide, college access and workforce development.
The SoLa Technology and Entrepreneurship Center Powered by Riot Games is the foundation’s marquee initiative to train and inspire a new generation of Black and brown tech and entertainment professionals, leaders and entrepreneurs. The goal for the center is to empower students with in-demand career ready skills to enter the workforce immediately after high school graduation or to help propel their college education. The Center, opened in January 2022 and has served more than 2500 students.
SoLa is partnering with Live Nation Entertainment to build a second center. The SoLa Technology and Entertainment Center Powered by Live Nation will open in 2025 in the LAX-Crenshaw corridor.
SoLa’s College Scholarship program provides needed financial and material aid along with success coaching and support for mostly first-generation college students from South LA. But SoLa wants to hand out college graduations, not just college scholarships. SoLa Scholarships range from $5,000 to a full ride.
Our goal is to equip students with career ready skills that can propel them into the workforce after high school or into their college education. SoLa launched four career pathways to address industry workforce needs. Since 2022, the center has served more than 4800 students.
CAREER PATHWAYS
SOLA COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The SoLa Scholarship Programdoesn't only award scholarships, it awards graduations. SoLa Scholars receive between $10,000 to a full ride scholarship and success management from SoLa's staff and leaders.
The program began with a cohort of four students in 2018 and has grown to 186 SoLa Scholars and $2M+ in awarded scholarships.
The SoLa College Scholarship Fund is different. While other funds emphasize GPA and extracurriculars, SoLa’s awards are based on civic leadership and dedication to helping their community grow and thrive.
In 2023, SoLa launched the Miller Family College Scholarship, a special award in partnership with SoLa investors and housing advocates Adam and Staci Miller. The scholarship provides funds for SoLa Scholars facing financial hardship limiting their ability to attend either out-of-state colleges/universities and/or Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
