Music in Motion
An evening to celebrate CMCB's rich legacy and our journey towards an even brighter future
After 2 years away, we are excited to be back in-person for Community Music Center of Boston’s largest fundraiser of the year! Join us for Music in Motion on Thursday, November 17 as we share music and stories in celebration of our rich history while looking ahead to an even brighter future.

Experience immersive musical performances, an exciting auction, and inspiring remarks from CMCB leadership, students, and faculty of all backgrounds - all while enjoying gourmet food & drink with fellow professionals and community leaders.

As part of the annual John Kleshinski award presentation, we look forward to honoring prominent thought leader and classical musician Weston Sprott, Dean of the Preparatory Division at the Juilliard School, trombonist in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and member of CMCB’s Strategic Plan Advisory Committee, along with other special guests. Music in Motion will also honor C. Thomas Brown, partner at Ropes & Gray.

As one of the largest providers of culturally-inclusive and learner-centered musical instruction in the country, CMCB brings together students and families from across diverse communities in Boston to experience the power of music. Your support for Music in Motion shows a commitment to the next century of community-centered music education.

Music in Motion Honorees
Weston Sprott
HONOREE
Weston Sprott is a prominent thought leader, administrator, performer, and educator in classical music.  He is Dean and Director of the Preparatory Division at the Juilliard School, leading the Pre-College and the Music Advancement Program (MAP), and a trombonist in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.  Sprott is a champion of diversity and inclusion efforts in classical music.  His commitment to inclusion in classical music contributed to the creation of the Black Orchestral Network, the National Alliance for Audition Support, Sphinx Orchestral Partners Auditions Excerpt Competition, and Classical Tahoe Academy, as well as numerous other initiatives that are shifting the landscape of the industry.  He is a recipient of the Sphinx Medal of Excellence, the Sphinx Venture Fund, and the Aspire Award.  He has contributed as a speaker, writer, and consultant for various organizations, conferences, universities, and publications.

C. Thomas Brown
HONOREE
C. Thomas Brown was born in North Carolina, and moved to Boston in 1995 to attend Harvard College.  After two years in Oxford as a Marshall Scholar, Tom returned to Harvard Law School, and has spent his entire career at Ropes & Gray, where he is a partner in the litigation group.  Childhood lessons in piano and violin, lots of time in  church choir and school orchestra, plus a heavy helping of concert-going courtesy of his dad, left Tom with enough musical knowledge to be a voracious performance-consumer despite his lack of talent as a performer.  In addition to serving on the board of CMCB, Tom is also a member of the BSO Board of Advisors.
