Birdability Week 2026 – Colorado Springs
This October, join us for our second annual Birdability Week, a week of welcoming, accessible events centered around something we can all share: a love of birds!
Birdability works to make birding and the outdoors more inclusive for people with disabilities and other accessibility considerations, and our events are thoughtfully planned with accessibility in mind. But Birdability Week is for everyone! If you love birds, enjoy nature, want to learn something new, or simply want to spend time with a welcoming community, come as you are and join us.
All Birdability Week events are free! Join us for one event, a few, or the entire week. Advance registration is requested so we know who to expect and can prepare for any accommodations that will help make your experience comfortable and enjoyable.
You don’t need your own birding equipment! We’ll have binoculars, a spotting scope, birding books, bird bingo, and accessibility aids available at our walks. Bryan will also have wildlife photography equipment for participants to try, and any photos you take are yours to keep! We’ll keep an eBird list at each walk to share afterward, too.
Last year, we spotted 44 bird species across just 4 Birdability Week events, including Belted Kingfishers, American Kestrels, Horned Larks, and Yellow-rumped Warblers. We can’t wait to see what we find together this year!

Monday October 19th
Bird Walk at Kettle Lakes on the U.S. Air Force Academy from 9-10:30 am
We’ll kick off Birdability Week with a Bird Walk at Kettle Lakes on the U.S. Air Force Academy from 9–10:30 am. Led by Fish & Wildlife Biologist Johnny Ochs and our Wild Birds Unlimited staff, this outing is a relaxed and welcoming opportunity to enjoy the birds and beautiful surroundings of Kettle Lakes.

Wednesday October 21st
Talon Talk from 12-1 pm
Head over to Wild Birds Unlimited for a special Talon Talk from 12–1 pm. Nature’s Educators will introduce us to four native Colorado raptors, giving participants the opportunity to learn about these incredible birds up close in a welcoming, accessible setting.
Friday October 23rd
Short Bird Walk & Birding Sit at Rock Ledge Ranch from 4:30-6 pm
Join us for a Short Bird Walk & Birding Sit at Rock Ledge Ranch from 4:30–6 pm, right at the entrance to Garden of the Gods. Take a short, easy-paced walk with us and then settle in for a relaxed birding sit, with plenty of time to watch, listen, and experience what comes our way.
Saturday October 24th
Bird Walk & Birding Sit at Nancy Lewis Park from 9:30-11 am
Join us for a Bird Walk & Birding Sit at Nancy Lewis Park from 9:30–11 am, conveniently located in central Colorado Springs. With its pond and surrounding green space, this accessible neighborhood park is a wonderful place to look for ducks, geese, and other waterfowl. Walk with us, enjoy a birding sit, or do a little of both.
Sunday October 25th
Car Birding at Evergreen Cemetarty from 8:30-10am
Join us to explore an unexpected Colorado Springs birding hotspot: Evergreen Cemetery! From 8:30–10 am, we’ll bird our way through the beautiful, historic grounds by car, stopping at several locations to explore different habitats. At each stop, you can stay in your vehicle and bird from the car, get out and explore, or do a little of both. It’s a relaxed way to experience more of this 220-acre green space while looking and listening for the many birds that call Evergreen Cemetery home.
Birding Leaders
All of our bird walks will be led by Wild Birds Unlimited staff members Bryan Poss and Meridith Nash-Martin, two wonderful birders who are excited to help make your birding experience as enjoyable as possible. If you are brand new to birding, they are happy to help you get started. More experienced birders are just as welcome to come along, explore, and enjoy the birds with us!
