2025 Texas AFT Biennial Convention
June 20 & 21, 2025
Convention Committees

Convention committees review resolutions and/or constitutional and by-law amendments calling for the Texas AFT to adopt a policy or take an action. Resolutions received prior to the convention are assigned to the appropriate committee by the Texas AFT president. Committees may recommend concurrence, non-concurrence, or amend a resolution. The convention as a whole makes the final determination by a formal vote.

NOTE: Committees do not write resolutions; they act upon resolutions received by the convention. If a member would like to propose a resolution, discuss it with your local president. Resolutions must be submitted by a local, rather than an individual member. Locals must submit resolutions to Texas AFT by May 1, 2025.

The following provides a brief description of each committee:

Constitutional Amendments & Organizational Affairs
This committee reviews all proposed amendments to the Texas AFT constitution and by-laws that were submitted in accordance with the constitution and recommends action to the convention. This committee also acts on resolutions concerned with the internal affairs of the Texas AFT, such as support for state AFL-CIO candidates, communication recommendations, and Texas AFT’s organizing program.

Educational Policies
This committee acts on resolutions concerning educational policies such as testing reform, National Board certification, IDEA re-authorization, full formula funding for community colleges, and integrating students with disabilities into general education classrooms.

Professional Issues
This committee acts on resolutions relating to all school personnel, such as teacher evaluations, safety issues for support professionals, teacher effectiveness, technology for higher education, and school nurse staffing levels.
