Steps away from North Park’s Farmers Market and a block from 30th, this 1913 home was fully transformed for Sid Marcos—a filmmaker, disability advocate, and design enthusiast. The home blends utility with grace, by using accessibility as a design cornerstone. Its main axis is vaulted and connects indoors and outdoors, opening onto a 270° wraparound deck. Every aspect was thoughtfully designed to create a flexible, intuitive lifestyle, starting with Sid’s needs as a wheelchair user. The home is inspired by frictionless movement which is visible in smooth thresholds, and flexibility accomplished through sliding panels which allow the interior space to transform. About 1,044 square feet was reimagined, plus a 100 SF addition to increase comfort. Shoji-inspired polycarbonate panels, skylights, and full height fenestration flood the space with light, embodying a new approach to design-forward, indoor-outdoor living that welcomes everybody.

Sid's House received a Merit Award from the 2026 AIA San Diego Design Awards!
