David First will Present Sounds

Composer/multi-instrumentalist David First had one request regarding doing a set at L&SD, and that was to get in here a few times beforehand and have the opportunity to sweep the room for resonant frequencies in order to create a set of sounds especially for the space. Expect a night somewhere between musical art and physical therapy, acoustical phenomena research and consciousness navigation.
David First has had music released on Important Records, Dais, Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace, Phill Niblock’s XI, Mode (Spring ‘25), and numerous others. He has been the recipient of the Herb Alpert/Ragdale Award for Music Composition for 2019 and a 2019 NYFA/NYSCA Fellowship. He has also received a Grant to Artists from the Foundation of Contemporary Arts, as well as grants and commissions from the NEA, the Copeland Foundation (in 2010 & 2024), the Mary Flagler Cary Charitable Trust and the Meet the Composer Commissioning USA program. First is perhaps best known for his longstanding “Dave’s Waves Sonic Restaurant” audio/video installation which has been presented in Berlin, Belgium, Moscow, The Netherlands, and since 2018 has been open to the public over a dozen times at the Sunview Luncheonette (Greenpoint).
"Present Sounds" is your weekly deep listening escape, hosted in a private loft in Greenpoint. It boasts a vintage 4-point Klipschorn sound system and cozy seating arrangements, ensuring an intimate and immersive musical experience. The exact location will be shared with ticket holders in the confirmation email. Every Thursday from 7-11pm.
