CCSS Pre-Conference Session:
How DBQ Online Helps Create Inquiry and Literacy Centered Classrooms in Social Studies

MARCH 7, 2024
Purpose:
The purpose of this session is to build educator capacity in expanding support for inquiry, literacy, writing and technology, with the DBQ Project.

Session description:
Through the DBQ Online platform, educators will learn how to effectively support the History/Social Science Framework with the DBQ Project 6-Step Methodology. Educators will actively engage in inquiry and literacy strategies, highlighting certain steps of the methodology that support critical thinking, reading comprehension, and evidence-based writing. Emphasis will be placed on differentiation within the platform, to further support teaching and learning. Additionally, we will explore our newest features, including audio feedback to support the assessment loop and the custom binder option. The custom binder is a viable option to support schools/districts as they develop or refine their Ethnic Studies course offerings, providing access to more “voices/stories”, within the various units. Educators will conclude the session with the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues to develop or expand on a school/district plan to support inquiry, literacy, writing and technology, with the DBQ Project.
