2023 Desert Fishes Council Annual Meeting

November 15 through November 19

The 55th annual meeting of the Desert Fishes Council will be held a the Tri-County Fair and Event Center, Bishop, California November 15-19. The meeting will start with a welcome social on Wednesday evening, followed by presentations on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The business meeting will be Friday afternoon at the meeting venue, and the banquet will be Friday evening at Mountain Rambler Brewery, which was Phil Pister's favorite watering hole. On Sunday, field trips will include a visit to Fish Slough, a very special place for Phil and our entire organization. We will also offer several events and opportunities to honor and remember Phil, our organization's beloved co-founder. Details will be forthcoming.

The nearest major airports are Reno-Tahoe International Airport (3.75 hour drive north of Bishop) and McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas (4.5 hour drive south of Bishop).
Car rentals are available at either airport.
Although Reno is closer, there is more mountainous travel between the airport and Bishop, and snow is occasionally encountered along Highway 395 in November. The driving route from Las Vegas passes through or just north of Death Valley, and those desert passes are usually dry in November.
Bishop has an airport serviced by United Airlines, but currently it appears there will be a pause in flights after Labor Day--between the peak summer and winter seasons--with flights scheduled to resume in December. But please check the Bishop airport website for the latest information.

Hotels and Accommodations

Accommodations for a block of hotel rooms have been made at the Vagabond Inn. The DFC rate for the meeting is $104/night for a king bed room ($89 on Wed and Thu and $119 on Fri and Sat) and $114/night for two queen beds ($99 on Wed and Thu; $129 on Fri and Sat). When making your reservation, please call 760-873-6351 and ask to reserve a room under the Desert Fishes Council block. No special code is needed. Meeting rates are available until October 31 or until our block fills. Additional accommodation options can be found below.

RV camping is available at our meeting venue, the Tri-County Fairgrounds, and both tent and RV camping are available nearby at Brown's Town.
