LGBTQ2IA+ Dionysians! I call us to gather in a procession in Salem for North Shore Pride! We'll be taking the guise of crazed Bacchae, the feral worshippers of Dionysus, our god of wine, parties, theatre, neurodivergence, intoxication, the wild world of nature, and gender variance. Though heterosexual supremacy did not always take the form it takes now, Dionysus has been adopted in recent centuries as a designated protector of queer people.
Let's Misbehave: The theme this year is Jazz-Age queerness! Pre-code silent film was rife with LGBTQ themes and performers, often in the costume of Greco-Roman history and mythology. We'll also be spreading the word about a new queer jazz-age play of the same name!
The Procession: Dress in your best Dionysian Regalia, Pride Wear, or Jazz Age Splendor, and dance in celebration of our beautiful, diverse, wild community.
We Will Have For You: Ribbons, Flowers, Music.
Symbology and Style Inspiration: Leopard print, togas, wands, pine cones, laurel wreaths, grape vines and leaves, goblets, satyrs, bells, flapper wear, white tie, colors of purple, red, green, and gold.
Temple of Dionysus: We are inviting any members of the
Temple of Dionysus who wish to march. You do not need to be a member or a worshipper to attend: non-spiritual, atheist, and agnostic party folks are welcome if you dig the theme (see Rule 1).
Rules are few but important:1. Celebrate Our Differences: Come for fun, come for worship, come for curiosity. Whether you are a Hellenist practitioner, incorporate Dionysus into your larger spiritual practice, or are just a fan of wine, Greek literature, or the Hades game - everyone is welcome here. Please respect everyone's individual path and level of participation.
2. Protect Each Other: Please abide by laws in Salem, look out for each other, and respect the natural beauty here by not littering.
