Why consider a program in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization?
DNS Exercise I is your entry point into learning DNS principles and exercises. Whether you are a PT, DC, ATC personal trainer, yoga or Pilates practitioner, or coach, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) can help you improve your client's outcomes. The course begins with the theory and basis behind the DNS approach, developmental kinesiology. Developmental kinesiology teaches us the process of a baby's development during the first year of life; from how they develop sagittal stabilization (core stabilization), to the inborn central nervous system movement patterns driving them to roll or crawl, to the integration of these stabilization and movement patterns required for them to become upright, walking beings. In DNS, we utilize the key developmental positions (think quadruped, “happy baby”, half kneel, oblique sit) that occur during the first year of life to both assess and improve/treat clients stabilization and movement patterns. The amazing thing about DNS is that it is truly applicable to all levels of rehab, training, and performance.

In this program you will learn:
•an understanding of the basic principles of developmental kinesiology.
•Describe the relationship between development during the first year of life and dysfunction of the locomotor system in adulthood.
•Discuss and demonstrate the basis of human movement: support, stepping forward, the biomechanics of motor function, the verticalization process & functional joint centration in postural development.
•Evaluate and correct poor respiratory patterns.
•Assess the integrated stabilizing system of the spine both visually and utilizing dynamic functional tests.
•Integrate corrective exercises based on the DNS functional tests and developmental positions in supine, prone, low kneeling, oblique sit, and quadruped global movements.
•Demonstrate how DNS corrective exercises can be integrated with other exercise strategies.
