Matthew D. Hutcheson is a leader’s leader. After a politically motivated false allegation led to incarceration, he developed E.P.I.C.™ and The Philosophy of Hutch™ while in solitary confinement over a non-consecutive 36-month period. E.P.I.C.™ is a practical framework for overcoming tragedy and leading with confidence. While in prison, Matthew helped 200+ inmates earn their GEDs and guided hundreds more to find and keep their true north. Today, Matthew and Annette advise premier law firms and organizations of all sizes on leadership and strategy. He is the author of Rapport (2025), creator of the E.P.I.C. Defeat the Defeat™ program, and host of the E.P.I.C. Podcast. Matthew was a 2025 winner of the CREA Global Award by the Brainz Magazine Selection Committee, in recognition for his creative and innovative ideas, adaptability in business, and for his contributions to sustainability and mental health projects. A former advisor to two White Houses and both Houses of Congress—and a Supreme Court amicus—Matthew has testified before Congress six times (HELP, Aging, Finance, and Ways & Means). His academic work appears with the University of Illinois College of Law and SSRN. The author of 13 books and an occasional university lecturer, Matthew has been called by a former Pentagon official the source of “one of the best motivational speeches ever.” Married to Annette for 34 years, he’s a proud father of four and grandfather of three. His mission: help people “defeat anything, triumph over everything, be limited by nothing, and emerge as an unstoppable force.”
Annette Hutcheson is a wife of 34 years, the mother of four, and the grandmother of three. In 2012, her life was torn apart when her husband, Matthew, was arrested by the FBI at gunpoint. He was later convicted and sentenced to 17 years in federal prison. She lost her home, friends, and business—everything, including her husband. During the ensuing years, she single-handedly raised four children. Annette fought tirelessly within the legal system, submitting dozens of motions, pleadings, and memoranda to multiple courts in an attempt to free her husband, but to no avail. Realizing that she didn’t know what she didn’t know, Annette decided to apply to and attend law school. She earned a degree in Paralegal Studies and used her knowledge to heroically bring her husband home from prison seven years early. Today, Annette is an author, award-winning entrepreneur, and public speaker, using her creativity and courage to inspire others.
