Keynote Address
'Thank you, Mr Robinson' - RHONDA WHITE AO
Rhonda White AO, mum, pharmacist, Adjunct Professor, Honorary Doctor of Pharmacy, Honorary Professor, entrepreneur and co-founder of Terry White Chemists. In her keynote address, she will share her family's journey of epilepsy.

Smart Policy and Reform
The World Health Organisation published its Intersectoral Global Action Plan (IGAP) on Epilepsy and other neurological conditions in June 2022.  This session, through an expert panel discussion, will explore both state and national policy reform that would be required to achieve the objectives of the IGAP by 2032.

Panel speakers will include Dr Stephen Malone (Paediatric Neurologist and President of the Epilepsy Society), Sam Bryce (Epilepsy Queensland Chair of the Board), Miguel Diaz (CEO of Parkinsons Queensland and Chair of Health Consumers Queensland) and Chris Dougherty (Epilepsy Queensland Chief Executive).

Smart Transitions
In this session we will explore the topic of epilepsy at the key transition times of parenthood, ageing, paediatric to adult clinical care, and employment.

Speakers include Laureate Professor Ingrid Scheffer AO (Paediatric Neurologist), Associate Professor Cecilie Lander AM (Neurologist, Associate Professor and Anglican Priest), Dr Lata Vadlamudi (Associate Professor and Senior Specialist in Neurology), Shannon Foley (Chief People Officer, Endeavour Foundation), Rebecca Girard (Industrial Coordinator, The Services Union), Rebecca Eckersley (Researcher, carer and parent of family members with epilepsy), and we will also hear a personal story of epilepsy from Carol Barrett.

It's Smart to Talk About It
Modelled on the ABC format of "You Can't Ask That", we will be asking people with lived experience of epilepsy and clinicians all the tricky questions you never feel comfortable asking on topics such as SUDEP, incontinence, intimacy and parenting.

Panel members include Dr Dan McLaughlin (Neurologist), Anne Ovington (Clinical Nurse Consultant), Max Luca and Renate Luca who will provide personal insights of their epilepsy story.

We hear from clinicians and researchers to share what's new and emerging in research, tech and advanced treatments to bring hope to people living with epilepsy.

We are thrilled to announce Rhonda White AO, co-founder of Terry White Chemist Group, will be joining us as our keynote speaker for this year's Thinking Outside the Box | Epilepsy Symposium!

In 2011, Rhonda was inducted into the Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame and in 2013 was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to the Pharmacy profession.

Alongside her decorated career, Rhonda is a mother to a child with epilepsy and will be sharing her family's journey during her keynote address.

This is Epilepsy Queensland’s 13th year of running this much-anticipated and well-regarded annual symposium.
