Recent legislation in Minnesota has established aggressive goals to increase the efficiency of new construction through energy codes. The goals include an 80% reduction of energy use in commercial buildings (from a 2004 baseline), and a 70% reduction for residential buildings (2006 baseline) over the next 12–14 years. Such targets are needed to meet emission reduction goals outlined in the
Minnesota Climate Action Framework. Highly efficient buildings will also increase climate resiliency and reduce energy bills for those living and working in the next generation of buildings.
