This is a Beginning
Since our beautiful community brunch together, the landscape surrounding Flying Pig Fam has shifted: We are experiencing the shift in moisture that comes with winter and a shift in our expectations for public and civic life in the coming years. The beauty of this land that holds us all is so layered, images of inter-reliance and brave self-expression are found in every nook and cranny- most of all, though, land is our oldest teacher and friend, ready with lessons and care – able to steadfastly hold us across ages.

Flying Pig Farm Executive Director, Barak Ben-Amots, spoke to this lesson at our brunch gathering:

Over the last ten years, interacting with this ecosystem and our family that is this mountain, I’ve seen endless generosity. I’ve seen mutual thriving and abundance. I’ve seen maximal effort from every creature – every plant, every part of this family – putting in the most effort so that all of life can thrive. [It's] a mutual thriving that is driven by the beauty generated by every individual in the system. And all of that to me, is love.

As we commit to the land that holds Flying Pig Farm and the community, we commit to securing the land as a community resource for generations to come. This year, we served 1500 students and 300 adults from six different schools and across nine organizations. In partnership with the land owner, we are dedicated to purchasing the land for Flying Pig Farm; securing our operational budget into the future; and building on our education and community services. Next year we plan to:

• Expand our veterans programming
• Build a donation-based, all-weather produce stand
• Build a high-tunnel greenhouse classroom
• Secure the first part of our down payment on the land!

To do this, we need to reach our goal of $175,000 by the end of 2024. So far, the USDA has granted us $100,000! Dollars from private and foundation donations get us up to the $140,000 mark. We want you know know we are well on our way to securing the final $35k and we know we can make it there with your help. Tap the link to find out what you can do to help secure this land for our entire community.

“There’s a lot of hope to be had here at Flying Pig Farm. There’s a place for us in this ecosystem. We can be sources of generosity. We can be sources of love. We can be sources of mutual thriving.

And it’s not difficult. It’s not going to require you to fundamentally change anything about who you are. It’s just about showing up and being in relationship with land, and we can do that wherever we are because the land is holding us up.”
