We look forward to seeing you!
Psychology continues to grow in popularity across society. As a scientific discipline, psychology remains in strong demand from prospective students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Similarly, psychology is sought after by: industry at large, the media and the health and social care sector. However, many misperceptions about psychology abound; and in Ireland, the lack of regulation has led to public confusion as to how psychology operates.
Given the positive contributions of psychology to date alongside the above challenges, we are excited to announce this event which ponders what the future of psychology might look like, from an industry, community and professional perspective. Considering the Future Role of Psychology Across Our Careers & Communities
Psychology in Ireland is an increasingly diverse discipline, with an enduring interest from students, the public at large, and the media. However, significant challenges remain in relation to: hyper-competitiveness, inadequate professional funding, regulatory blind-spots, and a public misperception about the precise role of psychology across different domains. How should we navigate these issues as psychology continues to grow into the future? This session will welcome the current President of the Psychological Society of Ireland (Dr Anne Kehoe) as keynote to discuss these themes. Thereafter, a discussion panel with former DCU psychology Masters students and former PSI president (Mark Smyth) will respond to the keynote.
|      1:00 - 3:00 pm
Breakout Session
This afternoon session will see two popular subfields within psychology addressed by both practitioners and academic researchers. Participants will be invited to attend either The Future of Sports Psychology in Ireland, or Emerging Issues in Forensic Psychology. Both sessions will contain a mix of different career stages on these important and growing subfields in psychology.
