At the Song of the Sea, we encounter a jarring image: God is not praised for the gift of liberty, but for His prowess as an Ish Milchama—a "Man of War." In a tradition where one Midrashic voice cries out "Great is peace" in twenty different ways, this celebration of martial might feels like a theological contradiction. Yet, this very Midrash offers a remarkable resolution that reimagines the very nature of Passover. It suggests that the human "Man of War" and the Divine "Man of War" are complete inverses of one another. Join us as we explore how the Exodus redefines what it means to "emulate God"—finding the strength to bear the burden of conflict alone, while recognizing that true peace is never a solo act, but a shared, universal effort.
