Day 1 Programming (virtual participation only):

Diabetes Management in Living Environments Beyond Patients’ Homes (Rehabilitation Facilities, Assisted Living Facilities, Long Term Care Facilities)
Session 1:
Current guidelines on management of diabetes beyond patients’ homes: What are the knowledge and care gaps?
Session 2: Important comorbidities and conditions that impact medication choices in living environments beyond patients’ homes
Session 3: Optimizing diabetes technology use beyond patients’ homes: Clinical, administrative, and regulatory gaps.
Session 4: Education and training strategies around diabetes technology use for clinicians and staff working in facilities beyond patients’ homes
Session 5: Patient and caregiver perspective: What is needed to improve caregiver stress and quality of life with the use of diabetes technology.
Session 6: Exciting developments and future pipelines: Important short-term and long-term research questions and discussion about barriers in doing research in facilities

Day 1 Dinner reception & hands-on session (open to all attendees):
Review the newest diabetes technology and have the opportunity to wear some of the devices, interact with industry partners, and learn how to prescribe and use them.

Day 2 Programming (option of virtual or in person participation):
Education Day: Diabetes Management in the Older Population
MORNING SESSIONS: Understanding the unique characteristics of the older population
Session 1:
Unique characteristics and clinical presentations of older adults with diabetes: The importance of identifying frailty and geriatric syndrome
Session 2: Hands on training on approach to physical exam in an older adult with diabetes
Session 3: Medication management in older adults with diabetes: Case-based discussion for prescribing medications based on comorbidities in older adults with diabetes
Session 4: Realignment of treatment strategies for de-intensification in older adults with diabetes
Session 5: Ask Me! Appreciating the experience of older adults living with diabetes
AFTERNOON SESSIONS: Use of diabetes technology in the older population
Session 6: Use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in the aging population
Session 7: Use of insulin pump and automated insulin delivery systems (AID) in the aging population
Session 8: Hands on training on using technology with physical barriers encountered by older adults with diabetes
Closing: Download and analyze data from the wearable devices from Day 1. Learners will also discuss how to troubleshoot common diabetes technology problems
*Registration provides virtual participation for Day 1 and the option of virtual or in-person participation for Day 2
