In a critical juncture where the concerted efforts to reforge the nation's approach to housing and urban development are more essential than ever, we are gathering the best minds to sculpt a future rooted in inclusivity, affordability, and sustainability, and spur private capital to invest in affordable housing and curb homelessness in Los Angeles. We invite you to “In My Dream Backyard” an exclusive event hosted by SoLa Impact, California's largest privately-funded affordable housing developer.
RECLAIMING, UPLIFTING, AND EMPOWERING LOS ANGELES:
  • Reclaiming Community Foundations: Tackling historical underinvestment and economic inequality requires reclaiming LA's narrative through comprehensive community development. By harnessing public-private support, we can rectify past neglect, spurring growth and resilience in the very infrastructure and environmental conditions that define the region's backbone.
  • Uplifting Through Affordable Housing: Directly addressing the housing crisis that plagues LA is pivotal to uplifting its residents. Affordable housing development, supported by cross-sector partnerships, not only combats homelessness and housing insecurity but also serves as a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization and stability.
  • Empowering Economic and Youth Development: Empowerment stems from creating economic opportunities and investing in today's youth. Public-private initiatives focused on job creation, equitable education, and safe recreational spaces are vital to empowering LA's diverse population, setting the stage for a future where every individual can thrive.
Los Angeles City & County faces a critical need for affordable housing units, with a shortfall of over 500,000 affordable housing units. The IMDB Symposium is dedicated to addressing this housing crisis, making a profound impact on low-income Black and brown communities in Los Angeles. We want to communicate that LA is open for investment in housing and help change the perception that “LA is difficult to build in” catalyzing significant institutional capital.

Event Highlights:
Why "In My Dream Backyard?"
A call to action, a pledge of commitment, and a rallying cry to uplift and reclaim Los Angeles through local empowerment, private capital, and personal engagement. This mantra is a summons for all who hold a stake in LA’s future, fostering a collaborative spirit to forge pathways of opportunity.
Featured panels:
Panel 1: The Future of Impact Investing: For years, impact investing has been on the rise. Pensions, endowments, and others made public commitments to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) investing. How have these panned out? Where have investors seen the best return – financially or in terms of impact? What should new investors consider? How has the recent backlash against ESG and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) impacted investment strategies?

Panel 2: The Financial Players – Fight or Flight: In light of today’s interest rates, many banks have pulled back and tightened their lending. How has this impacted businesses, developers, and entrepreneurs in low-income communities? What can be done about it? What steps can and should government take to promote and de-risk these investments?

Panel 3: Doing Their Part: The Role of Philanthropies and Foundations in Our Backyard: Explore the significant impact that foundations in Los Angeles have on local communities, particularly in the realms of affordable housing, community development, and environmental justice.

Panel 4: Housing as Healthcare: Healthy Homes, Thriving Communities: Bridging Healthcare and Affordable Housing through developing highly sustainable and community health-oriented assets in communities that need them most. Health insurance companies typically hail prevention as the best form of care, and homelessness has been linked to an increasing rate of negative health outcomes. Reducing homelessness via the production of affordable housing may be healthcare companies' best form of care.
