Join us on the farm for a beginner's conversation about rainwater harvesting.

An essential skill in our climate and changing world, captured rain can be utilized for irrigation needs in our own gardens and landscaping. Rainwater that isn’t captured and reabsorbed by plants or into our groundwater is lost off of concrete scapes into the ocean, carrying pollution with it. This is never more essential than in Southern California, where rainfall averages 10-14 inches per year and water levels from The Colorado River continue to decrease year after year. No matter how short, our rainy seasons can provide an incredible amount of water if properly stored.

With that in mind, workshop participants will discuss the use of landscape design, how to install rain barrels for rainwater collection, and learn the process of installation and other passive water harvesting methods for your home garden. After the workshop, participants will have a framework for assessing their own rainwater collection capabilities at home. The first 10 participants to sign-up will receive a free rain barrel!

Workshop will include:
- Rain barrel lecture,
- Demo on setting up rain barrel,
- Measurements on different roofs on the property to check out rain capturing capability, and
- Discussion and tour of landscape design and elements to implement at home
