Please join us in support of The James D Kinsey Jr. Memorial Fund, Inc. Last year's 2nd Annual Poker Night was an even BIGGER success than the 1st year! We raised over $55, 0000 and were able to fund the two scholarships created as well as donate again to charities and families in need!
We were able to donate a larger sum to Camping to Connect thanks to last year's success. Camping to connect is a mentorship program that uses outdoor recreation to help young men in America's cities. Research proves that regular and consistent exposure to nature is integral in the healthy mental, physical and emotional development of children. Since urban youths tend to lack access to the natural world, Camping to Connect aims to provide access to and foster an appreciation for the great outdoors. As an avid camper, we know Jim would have loved to support this organization. We will be donating to Camping to Connect again this year! Camping to ConnectWe were so pleased that last year we were able to have the scholarships in place, since that was always our ultimate goal of this foundation. This scholarship was (and will continue to be) awarded to two graduating seniors who have experienced the loss of a parent / guardian or sibling, or are dealing with grief and loss in a manner they've had to overcome from the start of Middle School through their Senior year. It will be awarded to a student from Manhasset High School (Jim's alma mater and our childhood home town) and another from Paul D. Schreiber High School in Port Washington (the town where Jim and his family live and his children attend). The students who are awarded this scholarship will be chosen by the guidance counselor or a faculty member who is aware of the student's struggles. While we know that no amount of money can take away the pain these students feel or bring their family member back, we also know that grief can be lonely and we hope that it will be a small gesture to let them know they're supported and their grief is seen.
Last year we were able to donate $10,000 to each student - one of the largest donations given out at the Senior awards nights! We hope to continue to be able to give such a large check to these students.
Aside from the above, with the funds raised we were able to assist local families that lost their husband/father in a similarly tragic and unexpected manner as we lost Jim. The shock and surprise of such a loss can send a family into panic, we are grateful to have been able to provide any bit of monetary support during that time.
We look forward to another great event and are so grateful for all our family, friends and colleagues who continue to support this foundation and ultimately all the children and families it benefits. THANK YOU!
