Join Stepping Stone, The She Lab, and best-selling author, Jia Tolentino, of "Trick Mirror: Reflections on Self-Delusion" for a moderated conversation on Thursday, February 13 from 5:30-7:30 PM at The Bradbury and Vault Virginia in Downtown Charlottesville. The She Lab, a women’s network committed to female empowerment through community, is hosting this event, and the network’s Lily West will moderate the conversation with Tolentino.
Ticket proceeds from this event will go to Stepping Stone, the only nonprofit in the Charlottesville-Albemarle region that provides children age newborn to three from under-resourced families with essentials that ensure a healthy, safe start to life.
There will be mixing and mingling in The Bradbury starting at 5:30 PM. Tickets include light appetizers and drinks will be available for purchase. The conversation with West and Tolentino will begin promptly at 6:00 PM in Vault Virginia, followed by a Q&A and book signing at The Bradbury (adjoining Vault Virginia). Books will be available for purchase on-site from Bluebird Books.

Jia Tolentino is a staff writer at the New Yorker, the author of the essay collection "Trick Mirror", and a screenwriter. She grew up in Texas, received her undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia, and got her MFA in fiction from the University of Michigan. Her work has also appeared in the New York Times Magazine and Pitchfork, among other places.
"Trick Mirror", published in 2019, was an instant New York Times bestseller and a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle’s John Leonard Prize for Best First Book and the PEN America Diamondstein-Spielvogel Award for the Art of the Essay. It was named one of the best books of the year by the New York Public Library, the New York Times Book Review, the Washington Post, NPR, the Chicago Tribune, GQ, and the Paris Review.

Lily will moderate a discussion with Jia on topics like social media, motherhood, and much more, beginning at 7:00 PM in the Vault, located in the rear of the Bradbury, so make sure to get to your seat on time! Lily will also lead a Q+A after their dialogue.

Jia will be signing books available for purchase on-site by Bluebird Books in the front lobby of the Bradbury so you can either bring your copy or buy one there!
