Obituary

Kimberley Stone Johnson, born Kimberley Lorraine Stone, passed away on January 29th, 2024 at St. Anthony Hospital in Denver, Colorado from stage 4 cancer. She was born in Denver on December 10, 1954.

Kim's lifelong dedication to spiritual practice and service led her to be trained as a teacher of meditation at the young age of age 19 in Vittel, France, and later in Switzerland. On her return to Denver, she began a 50-year career as a teacher of meditation, instructing thousands of people in Transcendental Meditation, and other techniques. She attended Maharishi International University in Fairfield, Iowa in 1979 with her husband-to-be, Fred Johnson, whom she married in 1980.

Kim was an accomplished art teacher, teaching for many years at the Monart Art School and at public and private schools throughout the Denver Metro. Her passion for guiding young people in visual arts continued with the establishment of an art teaching studio in Manitou Springs, where she inspired many students to pursue their interest in artistic self-expression. Kim was an accomplished visual artist herself, and her work was featured at the Icon Gallery in Fairfield Iowa, and at various art shows in and around Denver.

With her husband Fred she co-founded Shiva Sai Mandir 1998, a spiritual center and temple in South Denver that continues to serve the community to this day with classes in Vedic Studies, meditation practices, sacred art, humanitarian projects, devotional music and song and traditional celebrations of Vedic holy days. She also led spiritual pilgrimages to India and Nepal.

Kimberley is preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Shirley Stone, and her husband, Charles (Fred) Johnson. She is survived by her sister, Konnelle Stone, and her children, Channing and Angel Johnson, and her granddaughter Mira Whitlatch
