Amanda Timmons
Immunization Policy Analyst
In her 30 years with the Oregon Immunization Program, Amanda has worked on all aspects of immunization policy, from helping implement the Vaccines for Children Program to directing school and children’s facility immunization requirements.
Currently, Amanda is responsible for legislative tracking and bill analysis for the program. She also writes and edits immunization protocols and is a member of the core team working on the next iteration of the ALERT IIS. Amanda’s area of expertise in ALERT is the forecaster and she is responsible for keeping the algorithm as up-to-date as possible.
Amanda’s work-related hobbies include scouring proposed legislation for the most interesting proposals, diving down the rabbit holes of package inserts and ACIP statements and answering the most bizarre immunization-related questions our partners come up with.
Objective
• Describe the potential outcomes of not routinely vaccinating, vaccinating off schedule, and vaccinating when contraindicated.
• Classify influenza by differentiating between different proteins making up the strains of the virus.
• Evaluate popular reporting on avian influenza by identifying the factors most likely to lead to pandemic influenza.
• Summarize the factors leading to recent outbreaks of measles and pertussis in Oregon and identify priority groups for vaccination.
Lisa Chambliss
Registered nurse
Lisa Chambliss is a registered nurse who graduated from Maui Community College in 2011. Since 2013, she has worked at Lane County Public Health in the Communicable Disease program, specializing in tuberculosis case management and immunizations. Lisa is passionate about serving the community and is dedicated to preventing illness through education and outreach.
Objectives
• Recognize the impact of vaccination anxiety on both the patient and the provider.
• Define each component of the CARD System and explain its purpose in addressing vaccination anxiety.
• Demonstrate comfort techniques to ensure patients feel relaxed and reassured before and during the vaccination process.
Dr. Audrey P. Garrett
Gynecologic Oncologist
Dr. Audrey P. Garrett, MD, MPH, is a gynecologic oncologist at Willamette Valley Cancer Institute in Eugene, Oregon. She holds an MD and MPH from Columbia University and completed her residency and fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard University. Dr. Garrett specializes in gynecologic cancers, with a particular focus on HPV-related cervical cancer. She is a highly regarded speaker on topics including the link between HPV, cervical cancer, and preinvasive disease, as well as the gynecological care of women with breast cancer.
Carrie Bader
Training Director
Carrie Bader (she/her), MPH, MOT first attended a motivational interviewing (MI) training in 2007 and has been a dedicated student of MI ever since. She is an occupational therapist and public health educator, and has worked in a variety of settings, including health coaching, inpatient behavioral health, and vaccine education. She serves as Training Director at Boost Oregon, where she has developed a set of motivational interviewing trainings focused on addressing vaccine hesitancy.
As a member of the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and a MINT-Certified Trainer, Carrie has presented at conferences, healthcare settings, and non-profit organizations for a wide array of professionals, including front-line staff, clinical staff, administrators, and leadership. She has provided training to hundreds of people in settings that include health care, inpatient behavioral health, substance use, local and state government, and community-based organizations. Carrie is dedicated to improving health outcomes by promoting the use of evidence-based, compassionate communication strategies among a wide variety of helping professionals.
