This coming October, Lighthouse Medical Missions (LMM) is hoping to return to the nation of Liberia, which is located on the western coast of the continent of Africa.
Liberia is the home to over 5.5 million people. For much of its history, Liberia was considered one of the more stable countries in Africa, but the end of the 20th century brought 14 years of civil war that left the nation economically and morally devastated. Our first medical mission to Liberia was in 2007. The UN considers Liberia “one of the poorest and least developed nations in the world”.
After a hiatus of nearly twenty years, we returned to Liberia last October. We again also found great medical needs, including malnourished babies and toddlers, something that I have not personally seen since our trip to post-war Sierra Leone in 2002.
So, in an effort to meet these needs, we are planning on revisiting Liberia this fall, BUT to accomplish this goal, we need others to partner with us financially. ALSO, we want to share with you how we are doing our part to raise funds.
On June 14th, we are sponsoring a “LIBERTY FOR LIBERIA, 5K, 10K RUN, WALK or BIKE” event. Me, Bob Hamilton, is personally planning on running a very, very slow 10K that morning and will be asking for friends to “sponsor” me.
We’re also encouraging others to have your own event wherever you live and ask others to sponsor your effort as well.
Thank you for considering participating in this endeavor.
