2021 LIVING LEGENDS
THE STORY OF THE GARRISON SILVER CUP
In 1833, William Lloyd Garrison, editor of The Liberator newspaper, joined blacks in establishing the New England Antislavery Society at the African Meeting House on Beacon Hill. Shortly after that, he made his first trip to England to raise funds for a school for colored youth.

Before he left Boston, Garrison gave a farewell address to the Meeting House. The next evening at the home of George Putnam, Boston's black leaders presented Garrison with a silver cup.
