The EVOLVE Research Group are delighted to announce their 10th meeting. This event will focus on the theme of 'Maximising Human Potential.' Leading domestic and international researchers in the field of barefoot activities, anthropology, biomechanics, children's physical activity, and human evolution will speak at this event. Follow our social media page for the week by week announcement of guest speakers on the day and a full agenda. Our X (formerly twitter) is EVOLVE_SETU.

Tickets are free but limited to 80 people for the day. Please register your interest as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. This is a day not to be missed which has been put together by our hard working team here at SETU Carlow. Where else would you get these exceptional researchers, leaders, and experts in this field (for free!).

Meet the Keynote Speakers
Keynote Speaker 1: Professor Grant Schofield  
Grant Schofield is a professor of Public Health at Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand. He is the Director of the Human Potential Centre and was a former Chief Scientific Advisor to the Ministry of Education in New Zealand. Grant is passionate about how lifestyle can be used as a medicine in public health and chronic disease. Grant;s research has focused on physical activity and exercise. Grant has researched how to better design urban environments to get people moving, modifying sedentary behaviour, measuring physical activity, and encouraging play – especially risky play in children.

Keynote Speaker 2: Dr. Carina Price
Associate Professor Carina Price is a sport biomechanist by background and has been undertaking quantitative research relating to the foot and footwear for the past 12 years within the Human Movement and Rehabilitation research group at the University of Salford.

Carina's publications include a range of experimental designs relating to gait analysis and biomechanics including plantar pressure systems, 3D/4D scanners, ultrasound, 3D motion capture and electromyography.

Keynote Speaker 3: Dr. John Radnor 
Dr. John Radnor is director of the MSc. Youth Athletic Development and lead Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Youth Physical Development Centre at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

John's research interests are in youth athletic development, investigating the development of physical performance throughout maturation. John is a Tutor for the UK Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA), and an accredited strength and conditioning coach.

Keynote Speaker 4: Dr. Gary Cahill
The Earth is 4.5 billion years old, but when did we come about? Dr. Gary Cahill retraces the human steps in his presentation about 'Our Place in the Universe.'
Gary is a physicist and lecturer at South East Technological University Carlow Campus. Gary has a keen interest in the Evolution of the Universe from the Big Bang to present day. Gary will demonstrate where the human species fits into this timeline and give the audience a perspective into the human timeline.

Keynote Speaker 5: Dr. Stewart Morrison
Dr. Stewart Morrison is a senior lecturer in physio therapy at King's College London. Stewart is an expert in foot and lower limb pathology. Stewart's research is striving to improve clinical care for children and adolescents.
Stewart has a background in podiatry, and he has vast experience of managing foot and lower limb problems across the lifespan.

Keynote Speaker 6: Dr. Ashley Jones 
Dr. Ashley Jones is a senior lecturer in the rehabilitation sciences at Leeds Beckett University. Ashley was also Head of Academy Science and Medicine in English professional football. Ashley's research focuses around muscular injury surveillance in professional foorballers.
During his talk on May 9th, Ashley will give the audience an insight on the muscular injuries that professional footballers obtained and the reasons why, after studying 243 players to find out.

Keynote Speaker 7: Dr. Noel Richardson 
Dr. Noel Richardson is the most experienced researcher here in the Department of Health and Sport Science in SETU Carlow. Noel will speak about 'Finding Strength in Vulnerability: Reframing Masculinity and Men's Health.'

Noel has extensive experience in the area of men’s health at a research, policy and advocacy level. He is principal author of the first ever National Policy on men’s health, which was published in Ireland in 2009. He has worked with the HSE, EU and WHO in reporting and advising on policies in Men's health.

Keynote Speaker 8: Aneta Kuczynska
Aneta is an outstanding postgraduate researcher in South East Technological University Carlow. Aneta's interests are in the experiences of parents and autistic children with footwear. Aneta has researched about the impact that footwear choices can have on the behaviour of autistic children.

Aneta's journey has been amazing so far, and it will be great to see the culmination of her hard work as a PhD candidate. Register below for your ticket to listen to Aneta's talk on May 9th.
Keynote Speaker 9: Dr. Peter Francis  
Dr. Peter Francis is the Director of the EVOLVE Research Group here in South East Technological University Carlow. Peter's interest is in the Evolution of the Human and Human Potential. Peter has been organising and running these set of confeerences for the last few years. This is the 10th meeting of this Research Group and Peter has established a huge network of researchers internationally to come together to share research on this day.
