The Leonhard Center is pleased to offer Mental Health First Aid training, an evidence-based program designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to recognize, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges. Similar to how CPR prepares individuals to respond to a physical health emergency, Mental Health First Aid prepares participants to provide initial support and connect individuals with appropriate professional resources.
 
This interactive training focuses on building practical skills for early intervention, including how to identify warning signs, approach someone in distress, listen nonjudgmentally, and encourage appropriate help-seeking behaviors. Participants will also gain greater mental health literacy and confidence in supporting colleagues, contributing to a more compassionate and resilient workplace culture.
 
The workshop will be led by certified instructors from the Jana Marie Foundation and is open to all faculty and staff in the College of Engineering. It is appropriate both for individuals taking the training for the first time and for those who previously completed the College’s 2023 offering and would like to renew their certification.
 
Lunch will be provided through the generosity of the Leonhard Center endowment.
